Had a court case regarding a shooting (if I remember correctly) shortly after signing then got dropped accordingly.

From what I've heard by people who work over at Roc Nation, its not really as organized like people think. Then again this is just one intern/admin person's take but its a bit like Def Jam in the mid 2000s in terms of not being very centralized and leadership orientated.
The management side is strengthen by the fact they have established acts with teams who know how to work them, the label side is still a bit less advanced.

Basically, its a miracle J Cole is as successful as he is and decided to take matters of his career in his own hands

Maybe it's less about music and more about Jay doing to other artists what labels didnt even feel he was worth.

The funny thing is NONE of these smaller companies like Roc Nation, Good Music, Grand Hustle, etc, are organized at all. These artists "labels" are just their friends & a few people on payroll & a couple signed artist. These smaller labels are usually run like shyt because all the relationships are waaaaaaay too personal whereas bigger companies are still willing to do business without being too personal with decisions.

Oh I see, established international acts like Rihanna, Timbo, Shakira, Kylie Minogue, Calvin Harris, Jeezy , Kanye and on + hipster acts like Grimes, Santogold, HAIM etc or athletes like KD, CC sabathia, Cano etc are just signing various types of deals with "small unorganized businesses" :dead:. Roc Nations salary alone is enough to pull top shooters from the major labels, CEOs from major sports teams, marketing people from ad companies.

As far as the "label services" goes, it seems like their last priority. They only signed like 10 people in 7-8 years, more than half of them were indie without any major label backup as far distribution goes etc. As far as the label goes today it's like 8 artists like Jay, J Cole, Jay Elect, Calvin Harris, Riri, Rita Ora, W Smith,
Mustard and like 2 other artists. That's a pretty high percentage of successful artists, a lot higher than any major label.

@Harry B I really try to stay cool with cats on this board but dawg you been commenting waaaaaaaay too much on things I say. First... WHO THE FUKK ARE YOU??? :what:

Fam... you honestly need to SHUT THE FUKK UP. I work in THIS BUSINESS. I deal with Roc Nation, Def Jam, Good Music, Universal, Warner, Sony & Rondor on a MONTHLY basis. I know how this shyt works I've been getting paid from it for a long time breh.

All those artists you named have their own teams and the only thing Roc Nation (Good Music/Grand Hustle, etc) does is cut checks and make phone calls like the rest of these "labels" run by nikkas do. It's all about your TEAM. Jay Coles "team" is better organized & put together then Bridget Kelly's "team" which is why he's seeing success & she's not when Jay-Z has given her chance after chance after chance after chance with HUGE budget advances & she's gotten nowhere. Why? Her TEAM. Jay Cole was completely ignored at Roc Nation & now look him... his TEAM is strong.

You are so blinded its fukking ridiculous. The Entertainment Industry is unique because you get paid strictly off YOUR RELATIONSHIPS. You think its a coincidence that Iggy has been signed to Grand Hustle for years yet only blew up AFTER SHE STARTED DATING NICK YOUNG? :heh:

Grand Hustle didn't know what the fukk to do with her & ran out of money trying to help her. T.I.'s money is separate from Grand Hustle its a business tactic. Nick Young scooped up Iggy & started paying for all her shyt with her own TEAM. Now she's huge & a lot of female & male artists try to hook up with the opposite sex so they can spend THEIR money since these labels have gotten tight with spending.

Big Sean, Kanye, Iggy, Lil Kim (was broke before Scott Storch started dating her cuz she was in debt), Keri Hilson, etc... they all link up with people with money over or equal to them so they can pool their own resources & finances together to fund projects for eachother.

For example... Iggy's budget on Grand Hustle was $50,000 when she initially signed. GH is not a big company & a $50,000 advance from a boutique label like it is pretty standard & more then fair because they shop you to bigger labels. Unfortunately over the years she wasted that money on mixtapes & videos etc tryna blow up & nobody cared. Then all of a sudden she starts dating Nick Young & magically she's able to fund big budget videos & snatch up DJ Mustard records & pay for her own engineering, etc... cuz of Nick Young. A lot of artists/celebrities/actors/etc date eachother because they can always pool their resources together.

But anyway, nah... FUKK YOU and you're ALWAYS trying to talk about some shyt you know NOTHING ABOUT. I said in 2014 I wouldn't use the ignore feature but Congrats you bytchass nikka you are about to be the Alpha & Omega of that shyt. This is how I pay my bills, this is my blood sweat & tears... if I need advice on how to work the fry machine I'll DM you but you need to stay in your lane you bytchass nikka... :heh:

apart from a few i'm pretty sure Jay doesn't find or sign them like that.

plus, the management side of the company seems to be the main focus and doing a great job with who they have.
look at Rita Ora, nobody cares about her like that but she's everywhere.

the co-sign/signing from Jay made people check for Cole which gave him a quicker lane to grow because eyes were on him but he took the co-sign and built on it and most of the reason for him getting big was all down to himself (people also looking for a new rapper to rival Drake helped but thats for another day).
