Big to me. If you were around & old enough back then Big was viewed as superior when they both were alive. Jay might've been a little more lyrical than him but Big was better at making hits & being the overall more rounded artist & emcee.

At the time I woulda said Biggie because I hadn't heard RD until years after its release. But I honestly perfer Jay. Biggie of course has one of the illest voices but even back then I think Jay was a little nicer lyrically. The notion that he couldnt have thrived or had his own career with Big and Pac around has always been laughable to me.

like when ya'll did biggie vs nas, I only picked nas cuz of the volume of material. which is why I give the nod to jay-z.

but only a fool doesn't realize that biggie birthed jay-z's ENTIRE style and persona as a rapper.
Never been a Jay supporter, but Jaz and Kane are his foundation. He just ran with Big's ish after he died.

Revisionist bullshyt.

Biggie's persona ain't even Biggie's persona. First time I saw big he had gold fronts and a Bandanna on....:pachaha:

Then he all of a sudden becomes Chubb Rock/Heavy D hybrid like he was always some smooth mafioso type, heartbreaker type of nikka :mjlol:

Puffy owe them nikkas a check.

Hova, hova, hova, hova, hova.

Jay is lyrically pound for pound better than big.

All that big birthed jay style shyt is bologna. That shyt jay was spitting on RD, AND vol 1 is lyrically more denser than what big has done. Even when jay dumbed it down to double his dollars we still got shyt like dope man, dynasty intro, meet the parents, diamonds is forever, momma loves me i could go on.

Big was that dude "I got techniques dripping out my ass cheeks/sleep on my stomach so I don't fukk up my sheets" us 1 of my fav lines and ready to die is one the greatest rap albums of all time. But jay is better

Jay easily, he has more advanced lyricism and I connect with his music more:
"So I make no apologies, crooked policies
So a G a nikka gotta be
We playing for property no Monopoly
So I'll pass go and let my nephew follow me
They say the child shall lead
So I take it far as I can and then we shall see
Shall we dance with the devil for a beat
I pray to God I ain't got two left feet
Do the hustle put ki's in the street
Then I'm ballroom dancing
Ke-ke'in in the suite

Sweet BB's on the feet
TV's in the seat, ene-mies on the creep
It's so corrupt
Soak it up it's a lesson
Every fukk up
One day you're up
Next day you're down
Long as you stay the same it'll come back around"

Reasonable Doubt was slick, mobster type content, nothing like the rough street guy persona you see on the majority of Ready To Die yet people say Jay was just aping Big, and fail to acknowledge Puffy's role in Big's persona.

No...and you could even make an argument that it's the other way around. Remember, Jay came with the fly, drug dealer, hustler image on "In My Lifetime" in '94/'95. But this is like choosing between Lambos and Ferraris. Its personal choice. They both Mt. Rushmore status. Of course you have much more material from Jay, and therefore more styles, flows, etc.
