TO ME: Nas definitely. Nas is the better artist period. With Jay, I never felt he was sincere about anything he was saying. He always seemed awkward and out of place. There was no connection to his art, other than I can rap a little and I'm only doing it to get money and obtain fame/notoriety. Because these labels wouldn't sign me. And I never thought he was this great gifted rapper either. In fact, he seemed kind of corny to me then (especially when I researched his early beginnings in rap), and still does now. Basically, I never felt any type of authenticity from dude. Of course my definition authenticity is completely different from y'all's.

With Nas, there was always a familiar type of humble relatibility to him. Directly or indirectly. He made you feel like you were there. Do you really think he would've been as lyrically vivid as he was on Illmatic, without knowing something about what he was talking about. And you could tell there was a personal connection his art.You could tell he was passionate about music and he loved doing it.
