Jay Z was never the hottest rapper in the game.

96- First solo NY Rapper to debut at number 1

Number 1 on Billboard Top 200 for four consecutive weeks (No other rapper achieved this in 96. Not Pac. Not Fugees. Not Busta. Not Outkast)

Certified Double Platinum in 2 months
Pac was the 1st rapper ever to have 3 number 1 abums in a row in the span of a year with MATW AEOM and Makeveli and sold 8 million records total in a span of a year.....while he was alive. Nas wasn't doing that.

Snoop had 93-94

96 was Pac, Fugees, Bone first and foremost. then it was Nas

How can Nas be 1994 based of your sales criteria

:dead:

Yall talk out both sides of your mouth just to hate on Jay Z :dead:

I never said anything about sales.... like Styles P said, there's hip hop before Illmatic, and hip hop after Illmatic.... there would be no Biggie, Hov, Lox, Mobb Deep etc without 1994 Nas :umad:

We talking about 96. Not whatever whoever did in previous years. So moving the goal post for Pac and MATW doesn’t apply here.

All Eyez On Me was a double album, so the sales counted as double. If you halve the 566K he sold first week thats 280K, which is around the same as what Nas sold first week. Nas was also able to retain his audience support for an additional three weeks with the number 1 album in the country.

If by “Bone” you mean Bone Thugz N Harmony, they didn’t release an album in 96 so I have no idea what you’re talking about.

So being the “hottest rapper” has nothing to do with sales then?

I’m just getting this right for future threads. Also the opinions of other rappers too,

I think ur responding to the wrong user breh.. I have never brought up sales when discussing "hottest" rapper in the game.

if we goin by sales metric it would be

1998-dmx
1999-eminem
2000- Eminem
2001- nelly
2002- eminem
2003- 50 cent

1994 Nas definitely had it.
1996 i'd give it to Nas and Pac.

You said Nas “had it” in 1994

What did you mean by that?

Who was the best rapper in the game in 1994.

Theres your answer... the most bootlegged, hyped album of the year.. that shifted the culture.. it was 1994 Nas....

How old are you? I was in my 20s in the Bronx when that album dropped... im speaking from experience... what point of view are you speaking from?

Hov hasn't made an album in 8 years and he has daily hating threads. that's how you know he's the best.

Vol 2 and vol 3 sold more than X's first 2 albums combined. X's third album was huge after that but then he was done.

Hov's comeback album had the highest rap sales in 2006 and sold as much as King in the middle of TIPS white hot prime.

Nah his 1st week sales was 560k and was counted as single album sales. Sales are only doubled for platinum certifications when it comes to double albums. His sold 560k pure with no doubling

there’s a few articles from 96 detailing this.

Nas was not seeing Pac in sales

What I will give nas credit for was selling more than biggie and Jay during that 94-96 period

He wasn't respected like that either, when RD came out it was considered as a "decent album", nothing more. Jay only became a thing when he had enough money to buy the NY press and make them change the narrative :manny:
Bingo. That press tour on the run up to BP was when he started the RD being a classic push. Of course his bozo stans fell for it and believed it. Nobody was calling RD b4 then

Never the hottest but got this to happen

Never the hottest but got Prince of all people to have Jay distribute his music before he passed

Somehow other musical giants respected him

Jordan himself only talks to Jay

I mean it is what it is
