Yeah he's hurt his brand/image more in 2013 than any other time. It started with the Open Letter Obama/Cuba thing, then the silly Samsung commercials app gimmick and underwhelming album, then the Nets .0001%, then the Belafonte thing, then this Barney's episode.

None of these issues were really damaging and no one expects him to be a civil rights leader...but each one kinda exposed his lack of "influence" that he's supposed to carry. He branded himself as the brilliant self made mogul but these events make him look like just a puppet and a corporate tool...

The Belafonte thing showed me how out of touch and dense he is, I don't agree with Belafonte. But Jay's whole approach lacked tack. I don't think Jay will ever have so much back lash that it would sink him. 1% of the population owns 40% of the wealth, so its like Nas said you are a slave to my rhyme book.

What I mean is we are united under a mission to not tolerate blatant disrespect from the white man....Even if what the white man that is pandering to us and telling us how great we are is doing is 10x worse...

And the real smart white people KNOW this....

This goes back to the whole Bill Clinton being the "1st Black president" sh1t when he did more damage to us than Reagan and Bush combined...

Same thing I said a while back about him, not to throw the thread off course but what do you think would ever finally open our eyes to Clinton? At this point I can only think of a critically acclaimed Black Director making a film calling him out tremendously a year or two before 2016 comes( now u see where I am going right :shaq: ) and then he(the director) throws his support behind the Second Black President for 2016 :noah:

Back to our community and how our "celebrities" like Jay don't take the opportunities to start up Black Owned and Black operated businesses....you know something I was wondering about was how come we don't criticize the females either like L. Boogie :patrice:

With all her talking in her music...you would think she would have thought of the idea by now.

so only white designers can sell overpriced crap at barneys? I dont agree with Jay's decision to do business with them but not sure what the point of the article is..

It's really a catch 22.

Why should we get mad at a African American selling high fashion? If you ask me that's long over due.

The problem it's Jay Z doing it. We all know his history and track record with the people.

If you’re looking for the perfect gift from the Jay Z/Barney’s Collection for the man who has everything, you’d better hurry into your Barney’s location: many must-have items in the collection are almost sold out. Cheaper priced items from the collection, such as the $695 cashmere ski mask (pictured below), are already sold out at the Barneys New York location
Of course, the items might have been purchased by Jay Z himself to give the impression that the collection is selling very well. But the sales rep that I spoke with via phone at Barneys New York assured me that that was not the case.

In fact, the sales rep said black men between the ages of 18-40 are the main customers of the exorbitantly priced collection.

He suggested that I come in and try on 1 of the last 2 pairs of $2,590 leather boxing shorts with embroidered gold crosses before they sell out. I told him that I was in Atlanta and he said he would overnight the shorts to me. But he cautioned me that if the leather shorts don’t fit, Barneys does not accept returns or give refunds on items purchased from the Jay Z Collection

I wonder when Jigga and Barney's came up with this if Black males between 18-40 were the target audience.

I don't think they were the target audience, more than likely it was anyone that have money to blow was. They probably was surprised that black males were the main purchasers:whoo:

do you think the majority of black males between 18-40 have 'money to blow'?
there was definitely a target audience or they wouldn't have even collabed.

Because nobody takes puffy, baby, lil Wayne or will smith seriously. To the common person, Jay Z is one of the most powerful black figures in current pop, and if we don't think that he sure does.
