the fillers are...???

I never cared for that Paper Chase joint with Foxy, but I don't think the album is packed with throwaway joints.

Now if you wanna talk about throwaways, let's talk Vol. 3... you got that "Pop 4 Roc" joint with Bleek, Beanie, & Amil which is definitely no "4 Da Fam"... Then there's "S. Carter" with the :snooze: beat and Amil on the hook... there's "Watch Me" which is just kinda there... "NYMP" which for some reason Jay happens to like a lot but is pretty much a stock Jay song... "Things That U Do" which is just weak as fukk all the way around... He's got some good shyt on the album, but a good half of it is take or leave. And this is when he was viewed as "that nikka"... I always thought it was a weak showing for him.

I actually didn't think "Things That U Do" was that bad....take away the weak beat and Mariah's vocals, lyrically it was nice.

"I felt caged in but kept roaming
Prayed for the Day of Atonement
Married to the streets no date of annulment
It seems every time it comes up
They postpone it
So I kept my chrome at the waist
Waiting for the omen
Savoring the moment and now you know
The reason that I flow the way I flow baby"

"Could've been lost in the system
Instead I'm involved with the rhythm
I dodged prison, came out unscathed from car collisions
I know I must be part of some mission"

"Whether you big or bossy, jig or flossy
Dusty or musty, sober or saucy
Broker than Todd Bridges, richer than Bill Cosby
Forgive me for my arrogance or you still salty?
Past on to the next life and you still haunt me
I'mma keep doing me unfortunately"

Vol. 2 is 4 mics easy, bangers for days. His last verse on If I Should Die is one of my personal favs of hid too.

"I'd tell Big they're still hearin' his songs
Run into Pac ask him where we went wrong
Tell him life is miserable when ya dealin' in the physical form
Is everything that's invisible gone?

I need to know will I still feel pain or will it be ironic?
Will I chill in the flames for all the ills of my brain?
Can I reveal the game to all the hustlers
Trapped in the race and if so can I leave this place?

Can I puff cigars and drink Cristal?
If this is heaven to me is this considered heavenly?
Can I still touch lives answer they 'What's and whys'
Make sure everybody in my fam' clutch five?

If I should die
Don't cry my nikkas"

Jay's song writing and beat selection was a bit ehhh from Vol 1 to Vol 3. Some hits a more than a few misses.

After that though he's made much more complete, more consistent and more enjoyable albums.

i honestly think the whole album is hard..he was in a certain zone on here. the volume 1-3 era jigga is him at his best. no doubt about it..we will never see another rapper like that again....verses he dropped during that stretch are just incredible

weakest joint is prob the foxy track and that aint even that bad...jay is spitting all over this album

if anything the production on this one isnt that strong as his other efforts and too many features :manny:

"I did songs with mary j blige my nikka"

this song alone is just crazyy >>>>

"Always gotta be the weakest nikka out the crew
I probably make more money off yo album than you"
