It's also like dance. There are counters and twists by your partner in the interaction that can change the tide by spicing up the interaction or startling your partner .
Once it's been said and it's out there, he has to own it. Can't backtrack and hope to keep the negotiations going. Backing down with his tail between his legs only solidifies the lost interaction and loses all respect of the other party.
I'd wager that he could've salvaged the romantic interaction if he kept pushing and being a contrarian. It's a lower chance, but better than backing down and pretending it didn't happen. Bonus points if he could make it funny.

Don’t rush into being sexual or sexual innuendo too fast.
If the woman’s level of interest isn’t the same or she likes to take it slow, it does nothing but make you come across thirsty and like a creep.
This is why I’m a strong advocate of dealing with multiple women if you are just casually dating.
The more options you have typically the less thirsty you come across.
Old girl’s interest was already lukewarm on dude to begin with though. If he was a guy she really into like that she would have laughed that shyt off or said “boy stop” playfully and moved on. The fact she walked away that easy is telling and she was never that into him, he just needs focus on himself. She ain’t the one for him.
