He was one of the first viable african american candidates for the US presidency, he finished third in the race for the democratic nomination in the 80s when america was less diverse and more racist and the thought of a black man being president or even contesting was asinine, he set the path for obama, and all other black politicians. The man stood a titan and he should be celebrated and admired for his work, a true hero.
