The Diva of the Bronx is in the middle of the controversy

Jennifer López finds herself in the middle of the controversy after releasing a new song with Maluma. The Diva from the Bronx and the Colombian collaborated on the song “Lonely” which has lyrics that many have questioned.

“I’ll always be your black girl from the Bronx,” JLo says in the song.

Many did not think it was right for López to refer to herself as “black” since they consider that she is not a black woman. The connotations that that word implies led many to remember when he used a racist word in the remix of “I’m Real.”

It was in 2001 when she participated with Ja Rule in the remix of the song “I’m Real”.

“I tell n ** gas mind they biz,” says López.

The word for the African-American community is a total insult and received a lot of criticism at the time. Once again López finds himself in a similar situation.

“The lyrics are a slap in the face for all black women but especially Afro-Latinx and Afro-descendants whose Latinity and beauty are questioned every day for their influence and Latin ‘look’,” wrote a person on Twitter.

“JLo calling herself the ‘bold girl from the Bronx’ this week of every week and not one person on her team caught her attention… it shows the work we have to do in the Latinx community,” another user commented.

“Wait, JLo just said ‘I’ll always be your black girl from the Bronx,” another user tweeted. “Why? Why? Why? Why? She wants to be canceled ”.

More black latin ppl than black ppl in the English speaking world in the americas.

not saying she’s black or white. Race changes depending on where u are.

culture is what defines a person. If homer plessy was considered black, you’d have to understand his case in terms of culture and not race.

but America is stuck on post modern notions of race and relegates culture to the hip hop section and dinner out with friends.
