At first it sounds absurd when you hear a celeb doesn't want someone looking or talking to them, but the lives of celebs are completely different than a regular person's life. Imagine being stared at EVERYWHERE you go and someone fanning out over you all day. Especially if you're a woman, your driver is just staring at you 90% of the ride in the rear-view mirror if not completely turning around and eyeing you down... and as soon as you enter a restaurant, men are eyeing you down with lust and fangirls are bothering you as well.

After working nonstop, I'm sure these people really don't want people staring at them and making small-talk nonstop and asking for autographs. They literally have to deal with that ALL day.

Now, on the other hand, the taking the tip back is inexcusable. That's just pure greed.

it has less to do with a lack of appreciiating the value of money than it does a fundamental recognition of how grotesquely uneven the allocation of wealth is in our society.

at heart, while I acknowledge that we live in a capitalist society, one which will almost assuredly remain until we are gone and well past then, i am something of a socialist.

by ”socialist,” i mean that my world view is anchored by a belief in the right of all men to live a life free of basic needs and wants.

the job for which ben affleck left that meager tip is certainly a useless one, a superfluous convenience to those with too much money to spare, and a crippling burden to the person filling it.

does this world need waiters? are most of these service jobs little more than one step above the men who pulled rickshaws centuries ago? i don’t think so.

if you’re worth as much as they say affleck is, show some compassion for your fellow man. $1,000 would have been a more appropriate gratuity and just as inconsequential to affleck’s pockets.

A few years I had a table next to her at a restaurant in East Hampton for brunch.

She was with her kids and treated the waitress like her personal errand girl so probably truth to it.
