Jeremy Corbyn announces Labour will buy every homeless person in the country a house

:whew: so glad we don't got this commie shyt here brehs

abour will buy every homeless person in the UK a house if the party is elected, Jeremy Corbyn has announced.

The party leader said he would purchase 8,000 homes "immediately" and give them to people sleeping rough around the UK.

He also highlighted plans to allow councils to take over properties that have been left "deliberately" empty in order to house people who are on waiting lists around the country.

Rough sleeping in England has reached new highs, official figures out last week showed.

There are now around 5,000 people living on the streets around the country, a 15 per cent rise on the same period in 2016.

Labour also announced plans to hand over vacant Housing Association properties to homeless people, rather than to people on waiting lists.

Mr Corbyn added that new homes built by developers and "deliberately" kept vacant would be handed over to councils to help ease pressure for housing.

He said: "'We would give local authorities the power to take over deliberately kept vacant properties.

"There is something grossly insulting about the idea you would build a luxury block... deliberately keep it empty knowing that with property price inflation the investor is going to make 10 per cent or 12 per cent a year... maybe a bit less but they are going to make a fair amount out of it."

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr show Mr Corbyn said: "(We would) immediately purchase 8,000 properties across the country to give immediate housing to those people that are currently homeless.

"At the same time we would require local authorities to build far more.

"The problem is homeless people, rough sleepers, beg to get money for a night shelter, stay in the night shelter or a hostel.

"The problem then is move on accommodation, the problem then is not having an address, without which can't get a job or claim benefits."

This is a legit problem we have in the states. Most new development isn't made to match housing demands but as places to simply park money. My city is overrun with condos that no one lives in and simply meant for mostly foreign investors to park their money in while at the same time it drives up housing costs for people who are looking for a place to settle down. This is why home ownership rates are plummeting.

Though personally, I think he should just pass a tax on this that decreases this. Its what was done in Vancouver when they had this problem and it helped.

A lot of people will make themselves deliberately homeless, taking away from those genuine rough sleepers.

Ironically old Boris Johnson did far more for social housing than this Sadiq Khan brudda

Prefer Tony Blair? :russ:
You need more serious left of center politicians who are more competent in power. Giving housing to homeless people and distributing empty housing to poor overcrowded families is a terrible communist idea.

We need bold and realistic ideas. Affordable ideas that wouldn’t burden our future generations with debt. Achieveable dreams like regime change in Iraq :laff:

It’s so telling that in 2018, homes for the poor and homeless is seen as too expensive and more economically invasive than global micromanagement and military adventures.

I'm kind of annoyed that a lot of people (even ones ITT) seem either ignorant or indifferent to this very real problem. Out here we have a huge issue of foreign (mostly Chinese) "investors" and developers building high end condos and apartments that few here can realistically afford. And it's done on purpose for just the reasons Corbyn stated.

The city approves these developments because they get $$$ and accolades for "helping" to curb our housing crisis, but the truth is, these new constructions barely make a dent in the issue since it's not affluent residents who are struggling to find housing. But people like to pretend there's a surplus of rich people crowding into mid-tier (formerly) "luxury" apartments and condos who are just dying to move into these newly built places to pay upwards of $4000/mo.

In LA, what many new, higher end complexes have started to do is act as off campus housing for some of our local universities. A single, lower middle class adult with a child likely can't swing $2600 for a 2bd/2ba, but two UCLA students can easily afford to pay $1300 a piece with financial aid and student loans. Hell, my ex lived in a luxury apartment complex in a 2/2 that was split with three other people. Yes, 4 grown adults split two to a room.
