What 'm learning today:

It's ok for a non-Black person to give Black people an opportunity to make it in the music industry exploit Black people and their talents to make money while exposing the harsh environments of poor Black Americans without providing lasting solutions:jbhmm:.
It's ok for Heller to be a snake towards young Black men because that's just how it is/was.... It's ok because without his blessing and belief in them we'd have no classic NWA albums and hip-hop (the same genre that was soon after used to influence mentally ill Black youth to harm each other) wouldn't be the same.

Yet when Black entrepreneurs, Black scholars, or damn near any Pro-Black man or woman provides us information, solutions, and general advice they are treated with disrespect and mistrust, and shouldn't be allowed to make a living doing what needs to be done to improve the standard of living for Black people.
They can't even take a shyt without somebody turning it into some ploy to take advantage of Black people and then they're negatively deemed "militant" or "hotep"
:rudy: . . what the hell are you expecting . . muthaphukkas like you always looking for a handout. It's the music business, not a music charity

A lot of you weren't even born or were babies when N.W.A. was relevant. Then I read the "Well Dre, and Cube, Baby, Puffy, etc...was doing it too." nonsense as if that absolves Heller. A lot of you have to be white. Ole' "Hitler done some bad stuff but without him there would be no Mercedes Benz," type of dudes. A snake is a snake. Cube didn't write No Vaseline because he wanted to sell more records. He was stating what was going on. Research Eazy-E and Jewish Defense League.

I don't understand giving Jerry Heller credit for bringing NWA to light when he's also responsible for the group falling apart.

And NWA would've blew up with or without Heller. People act like he was writing the lyrics and making the beats.:mjlol:

Lastly, I don't care if any of these CEO types from Baby and Iovine to J. Prince and Lyor Cohen die. 9 times out of 10 they were jerking artists or didn't give a fukk about the music, at all.

the NWA wasn't even that harsh towards him. i thought they were gonna go way harder at him. in the movie, his character seemed like a greedy exec who on some level still cared for his artists and was conflicted about these two things. not saying that he was like that in real life. i just find it interesting that the people who he actually wronged portrayed him like this. or maybe it was just to make a more compelling story, who knows...

They didn't go hard because they couldn't. He tried to sue them for the soft ball portrayal, imagine if they really went in on him.

Why are y'all shyttin on Heller though? They probably had standard manager recording contracts and other than the movie, I don't remember Eazy saying that Heller stole from him. And Eazy was vocal about whatever. Everyone around Ruthless said that Heller treated Eazy like a son, so y'all need to stop with ish y'all heard from a movie. Cube never even signed the contract, Dre was jerked harder at Death Row and Heller didn't even receive exec producer credits for ANY of the NWA albums.

RIP to him. His contribution to hip-hop history should not be ignored.
