He wasn't any better or worse than most executives. Without him N.W.A. wouldn't have reached the heights they did and his importance in the rise of West Coast gangsta rap can't be denied.

I was thinking a month or so ago, when he gets close to his death-bed, hes prolly gonna expose a lot of stuff. particularly what he knows about eazy's death.

R.I.P. To Jerry. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't of had no vaseline and no death row. 
The fact that Too Short exists is proof of what I'm saying. "Born To Mack" came out a few months before "NWA & The Posse". "Blowjob Betty" was out a year before that.
There was already people pumping money into that kind of music.
What you just said, about how these albums were in the adult section, was built in marketing for that kind of music. Not intentionally obviously, but police, politicians, the FBI, etc. saying "gangster rap is bad" made it cool. I remember I tried to cop "It's On" by Eazy-E and they flat out refused to sell it to me because I was 16, and politicians were making a big deal about enforcing PA stickers. You think that deterred me?
I went to every music store in town until I got it. If Heller didn't back NWA and Eazy their music would've blown up off the strength of the content. And shyt man...."SOC" went plat with no radio play, no hit single, and no video play outside of rap specific shows like YO! and Rap City. I'm not saying Heller did nothing but the music made noise with virtually no press or promotion.

I'm not saying Heller was some kind of visionary, or it couldn't have happened without him. but never the less, he was there, and it did happen
I'm saying adult section or not young people had access to the music. All that did was make it more enticing to us. I was in middle school when "Born To Mack" dropped, everyone had it.
Which is why they adopted the PA sticker....which just made people want it more. It was a sub-genre of rap destined to blow with or without Heller. Or NWA, for that matter. Too Short, Ice T, Quik, CMW, etc. had the same content before or during NWA's rise, too.
