CACS say "oh, but he's funny". OK. Martin Lawrence, 10 times funnier, Katt Williams, 10 times funnier, they don't have close to that type of money.

Same way rappers that were 10x better than Soulja Boy didn't make as much as him :manny:

I'm serious explain to me what I'm missing. If a hugely accomplished dentist is living amongst other hugely accomplished entertainers then what is the problem? Not every entertainer sees Chris Rock money just like I'm sure not every dentist sees the kinda money this guy is presumably making. Anyone who is the absolute best at what they do and has made it to the top of their field is gonna get guap.

So again please explain to me why Chris Rock's point is in any way valid.
The point of the joke is that the dentist is not in fact a supremely successful dentist, but rather just an ordinary dentist. While Jay Z is considered one of, if not the most commercially successful rappers ever (outside of Eminem I guess), Eddie Murphy is considered one of the most successful and greatest comedian/actors of all time, and Mary J is one of the most successful r&b artists of all time. He's saying that the dentist isn't the greatest dentist of all time, just an average dentist, and yet he still lives on the same level as them.

Whether the dentist is living above his means, or inherited money or whatever is clearly not the point. It's a very basic joke to be taken at face value. Do you take every joke a comedian makes and make it out to be more than it was intended to be?

I think people started arguing about how the fact that the dentist didnt have anything to do w/ being white (which is what people in here were saying).
A dentist living in that neighborhood isnt a regular dentist.

Its just how there are regular lawyers making 50k, and then there are lawyers making 7 figures.

But if he makes that kind of guap and lives in that kind of neighborhood then there's the distinct possibility that he's NOT just an ordinary dentist. What if he's the "Chris Rock" or the "Eddie Murphy" of dentists?

Do black people - on average - have a rockier road on the way to the top of the mountain? Absolutely.

Was Chris Rock's example really poor, thus invalidating his point? Absolutely.

People on this site spend more time debating what White people are doing and how they get theirs rather than trying to figure out how to get their own.

:what: what correlation? if a 200k dentist is living in a neighborhood where multimillionaires or billionaires live it's speak more about the either the neighborhood's property prices that he can afford to live there too or he's living beyond his means or maybe he inheritance or he's spouse earnings or something we don't know about him

I read an exceprt out of one of his books, and it said he was making 100grand a week doing stand-up back in his younger years. His roomate in college said he was broke, and didn't come from money at all, and even had to move back home cause he didn't have a job/money.

Seinfeld said thats where the idea for that episode where Kramer saw how much money Jerry was making came from. His post college roomate saw his stand-up checks after they both graduated and things got weird, he stopped selling lightbulbs over the phone and pursued comedy full-time.

Louis CK outed hollywood compensation numbers in a Howard Stern interview, saying the writers in LA make ~$7k/week. That's just the writers.

So if you write, co-produce, and star in the biggest show of the 90's, then sell it into syndication, and can make 100k a week doing standup and you stack that paper for 20+ years......your bank account would be:eat:
