Wow. As someone who went to St. Benedict's here in Newark, I've always respected St. Ant's contribution to the game of high school basketball. RIP

St Benedicts had a squad to, when they had J.R. Smith,,, and didn't one of Hurley sons used to coach them as well?

Dan Hurley. But the Hurley/JR era was after me since I graduated from there in 95. But Benedicts always a tough squad. But during Hurley's era of coaching, that's when the players started making it to the NBA with JR being the first.

Damn shame seeing a school of this magnitude close it's doors. Were any former players donating money to the school? I'd think with the number of NBA players this program put into the league something like this shouldn't happen

From JC! Great basketball school for years. shytty facilities and school overall IMO. How were they not getting money flowing in from donors. I guess St Peters Prep and Hudson Catholic got the donors with money. Basketball is prolly the only reason its still open.

They had a pipeline for scooping talent from the Boys & Girls Club in downtown JC early while the hoopers were in elementary.

Downtown JC is primetime now....so Im sure a condo or lux apts will be raised on the grounds.

Nah. They lost like 5 games I think. They went undefeated 2 years later with him and Mike Rosario. They made a doc about that team.

I followed them when they had both Hurley Brothers, Jerry Walker, Terry Dehere, Rashown McCleod, and them cats, and at one time they had big azz Luther Wright, before he transfered to Elizabeth
