John 14:16
Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
The idea that you can go to God in your own personal way sounds nice but there are some things in life that just are not going to be convenient .
I know most people don't like to be told what to do, and don't like the idea of " you have to do things this way" , but for this specific subject that is the way it is.

There are a number of religious texts that predate the bible that would contradict this. I wonder how we would know which one is the correct one?

I agree with this...I've been involved with religious chicks before (or rather chicks who later on decided to be religious) and it was nothing but a huge headache. Most likely she'll just parrot whatever her preacher says so I wouldn't bother even having that convo.
Logic is ineffective against religious people...after all, if they were susceptible to logic then they wouldn't be religious in the first place.
