Harlem had it until like 07 with the street wear

But once Brooklyn nikkas got on the luxury wave it was over

We was doing Japanese raw denim and Comme Des Garçon while they was wearing American Eagle and Holister

When they was wearing biggie merms we was rocking monlcers and we started the Mackage and Canada Goose wave

If you not from NYC you wouldn’t know so I could see why y’all might think Harlem/ manhattan/ uptown/ still got it

But nah from 07 on the momentum shifted to Brooklyn

I think Detroit was doing the Canada Goose first. Detroit,Chicago and the Bay are owed a great debt of gratitude when it comes to fashion:respect:

On second thought Fab is right Fashionista Jay circa the Black Album era had the game in a headlock

"I DONT WEAR JERSEYS IM 30 PLUS :mjpls:

GIVE ME A CRISP PAIR OF JEANS AND A BUTTON UP :youngsabo: "

Worst trend in the history of hiphop. I guess our parents never told us because they were just happy we were wearing half of a suit:francis:

Ill admit to rocking the dress shirt with the jeans. But you jumped the shark if you were one of the nikkas rocking a vest:scust:

Edit-matter of fact Brooklyn disqualified. Inspiring horrible trends shouldnt get credit.
If thats the case Atlanta cant possibly be ignored. Theyve inpsired their share of good and bad trends

a lot of NYers in this thread are giving Brooklyn/Harlem credit for shyt Kanye and Pharrell pioneered.

As others have pointed out...NY hasnt been the hip hop/black fashion spot since the early 2000s.
Ye ain’t make nothing lit in NYC besides Arenas and Don C’s

Y’all other cities be so far behind people do things years late and think we copying them

nobody was rocking Yeezys (and the clothes when they were sold in Saks and Nordstrom) in NYC?
Pyrex/Off White?
The entire fitting of the clothes changed with Kanye.

I spend a good amount of time on the east coast...
saw it myself.

Even saw it in China.

The fits in NYC havent been that ill in a minute...
its NOTHING like the 90s

nyc brehs, honest question. what actual influence DOES harlem have on fashion? and what does that actually mean because from my vantage point, i don't see it. are there specific fashion trends that started in harlem? i'm pretty ignorant on this subject.

Planet of Hip Hop
This a washed boys/arrested development conversation

Hovs button down trend was ripped from Ye. Hov was wearing jerseys until Kanye came around wearing blazers, polos, and dress shirts.

These guys are basically arguing what Burrough had the best 90 early 2000s run in urban fashion.

NYCs place as a fashion hub historically and now is because of people who move to New York not New York natives.
