Simms airs out gripe on Young's comments

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2005-11-21-simms-young_x.htm

CBS sportscaster Phil Simms blasted ESPN's Steve Young on Monday as a football dilettante who shouldn't question the physical or mental toughness of his son Chris Simms, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The war of words between the former Super Bowl MVPs erupted after Young, appearing on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown, questioned whether Chris Simms had the "mental toughness" to handle the "information overload" of the NFL after growing up in a "laissez-faire" atmosphere."

"When you follow football one day a week it's hard to know much what is going on," Simms said about Young.

Simms, the former New York Giants quarterback turned lead football analyst for CBS, added he won't stand for Young questioning his 25-year-old son's mental toughness.

"He didn't grow up in a laissez-faire atmosphere. Far from it. Come to my house and live with me and we'll see how laissez-faire it is," Simms said. "I don't know how Steve Young lives his life, but I don't live mine that way. And I didn't raise my kids that way.

"You can say whatever you want about my son. The one thing that will get me mad — and I'll stand in your face about it — is about toughness.

getting into the NFL is just as much politics as getting promoted at a corporate job.. its all about who you know and whose dikk you sucking most of the time :yeshrug: Look at all the true great QBs almost none of them drafted high and if they were drafted in the 1st round they went in the later picks (Aaron Rodgers type deal).

Give a team like the Lions multiple 1st picks and theyll STILL fukk it up

He had one decent game holy shyt and he didn't even finish it. Let's chill with all reflective thinking and what not until we see some kind of body of work.

Why? Body of work didnt matter when it came time to draft him. All that mattered was pro day and hand size.

It amazes me that professional front offices, guys who supposedly eat sleep and breathe the sport can be so easily swayed by the combine and pro day and literally throw out all reason and game footage of said players.

Sometimes its like these dudes get their info from espn analysts.

For the record, it's not the front office that's swayed it's the owners that are swayed. People put FO's on blast all of the time when it's been operating on the whim's on an owner the whole time. Owners will be watching ESPN and be like :ohhh:, force the GM to draft some cat based on highlights then dodge when ole boy is getting MURDERED by the fans for the pick.

Exactly. NFL is exactly like corporate America, why do you think there's so many father, son coaching jobs? It's nepotism and the good ol boys network. Luckily sports making it much harder to hide than any other types of businesses but you still have people falling forward and dudes not getting chances. Imagine if you could just slip in some white dude at the wr position and hide their glaring faults, you don't think they wouldn't do that? Now, realize they can do that when you go to almost any job you're applying applying for. That's why I laugh when people freak out about affirmative action, a closed networking system is what makes it harder for people. The reality is even for white people if you don't know someone, you're most likely fukked.
