I don't remember the last rapper to promo a album 6 months before it's release, then, promo that same album almost two years year
IMO, that's how the entire game should go, but, rappers need 3 releases a yr just to stay relevant

So for the people saying how did Dre lose...I mean...yeah he walking away with a ton of cash...but so is another dude...and the brand wasn't built by Iovine...it was built by dre...it got big because dre is a well known producer...not Iovine...because people respect Dre in music...not Iovine...because Dre had all those commercials...not Iovine...Iovine really didn't do anything for beats by Dre other than show up with a bunch of lawyers, a contract, and tell the creators of the technology "sign here, here, and here"... then make other artist on the label hawk he prodcut rather they wanted to or not (free of charge by the way...another thing that makes it slimy and genius) ...Without Dre beats would not have been as big as it is...and yet Iovine is getting as much of not more than Dre...he getting a job at apple just like Dre is...so I mean if the product is built off the back of one man's notoriety, work, skill, and fame...and yet another man reaps the same benefits...yeah that is kind of a lose...I also am skeptical of apple keeping dre around...apple is a straight up company...they holding a deal up cause of a video and some curse words...i think that was just a little shot at dre...to let him know "this isn't music Andre Young " "We make the decisions here Andre Young" "Beats is an apple product and we will market it as an apple product, not as beats by Dre...Andre Young"...I wouldn't be surprised if Dre was only over there for a little while then leaves over "creative differences"...get's a nice little golden parachute...but now he out of that inner circle for beats...but then again...but the flip side of that...is that jimmy recognized the business opportunity and not dre...so maybe you can flip it and say jimmy did all the legwork to make the deal happen...and now dre is losing a meal ticket...
And then on the Jimmy leaving part...I mean...Jimmy is the one who got Dre to come their...Dre never released Detox...I do believe he still contractually owes Interscope records an album...and obviously Iovine could give a fukk about that album...especially with that beats money rolling in...but the new guy...who is to say the new guy doesn't come in and say "where is the album at that you owe interscope Dre"
...now a dude who has no intention of releasing an album, has to work to release the album he had no intention of ever finishing...
I mean this is just classic business 101...when a big deal goes down like this...EVERYONE is not going to come out eating the same...Jimmy and Dre are getting a big fat check from apple and some new positions from apple...but history shows that both of them won't be able to keep them...apple will determine which one is more essential to beats by dre and let the other one go...
The people looking at this in dollars are looking at it wrong...people are looking at that 800 million...uh...you ever heard of taxes...AT LEAST 35% of that is gone off top, and that is a conservative number...now you down to 520 mill...and that is a lot...but shyt it's no 800 mill is it? And that is a one time payment...and you not getting that yearly beats money anymore...you sold it to apple...so...
As far as the personal friends vs business things...I mean...that is a line...right...at some point you do something in business with friends that causes you guys to not be friends anymore...
Somebody said "if my friend made me 800 mill i wouldn't be mad"...how about if you found out that the total thing was worth 2.8 billion...and he walked away with the 2 billion....would you just be like "well fukk i don't care I got 800 mill"...I wouldn't...it's going to be ugly when I find him...and I will find him...and we going to set in a court room while i try to get some of his 2 billion...

All that happened is they dropped the Interscope from his label name.
He's still signed to Universal (Interscope's parent company) and they're (and Curtis) makin' it seem like Interscope let him out his deal and he started a indy label.
Even posters are parroting it.

not really, the streaming service as to make money, if labels get too greedy, they either have more commercials/advertisements or charge more which leads to customer dissatisfaction and loss of listeners. this isnt 2007 when pandora had the whole market, there's a new streaming service every month it seems. labels won't make a killing from a service with such low barriers to entry.
