Streaming services are the only reason I’m “payin” for most music I listen too. If it wasn’t for that I’d be downloading it for free :manny:

I can’t see how this hasn’t helped the music industry overall. How many nikkas was buyin cds from stores before this? Outside of my favorite artists, I wasn’t payin for shyt nor checkin for most of these clowns.

The industry better be glad these services are here and help keep em afloat because I have little issue with goin back to not payin and I’m sure they’re are others in the same boat

Spotify is very connected to the industry. I believe most of the majors have shares in Spotify

Labels are doing all types of fukkery with Spotify to make money, including pumping fake music on the site. The problem is that Spotify has no long term strategy. They aren't making money and bigger sharks with infinite cash resources are moving in. Jimmy's comments about Amazon almost sound like a veiled threat to me. I've long wondered why Amazon doesn't move into the streaming business. They could simply be waiting to see how long it'll take Apple to get a foot hold in the market. Seems like an inevitable move. Or they could simply buy Spotify...

There's money to be made in streaming for labels, and they seem happy about it. And there's money to be made for big corporations who have the money to back it, without fear of losses or profit (like Spotify/Tidal). The unfortunate thing is that you can already see how consumers will lose out, in terms of album or even artist exclusives. A future where corporations purchase exclusive rights to music catalogs is not a future I want, but we're trending that way. If I had to bet I'd say U2 will be an Apple exclusive in the near future.

Spotify generated will generate close to 7-8 billion in revenue this year, which is more than UMG.
They are on an offensive growth strategy campaign, fighting to retain and increase their market share. Getting dumb offices, purchasing companies, getting top employees and on. Twitter just turned profit for the first time ever in q4 2016. Spotify's loss is even increasing, because money is cheap and it's a good time to make serious investments.

When they get comfortable, they will start generating profit. It's not as if companies are valued to $13bn by banks and investors if they don't think that they will get a positive return from their investments.

The streaming industry is making money, Jimmy justs want more

Jimmy is pushing to stop Spotify offering free subscribers access to music that is all. It's greed, not the lack of money Spotify is making

For instance, Spotify main cost drivers are the licensing fees payable to the rights-holders (labels). They paid 1.6 billion to right holder in 2015.

The streaming service saved the music industry, it was in deep recession before.

Yup

As long as Spotify remains free people like me will still be reluctant to fork over 20 a month to apple.

it’s not profitable at all
The artists get paid squat, and Spotify doesn’t make much either
it’s just not a profitable business model
