AD never took the wheel because he was comfortable being up under Bron
Luka is an alpha in his own right, since Day 1 with the Mavs.
The plan, for Bron at least, was not for his sidekick to be traded behind his back for a guy who definitely is no sidekick. He wanted AD to do the heavy lifting while still being under him so he could take all the credit. Example: AD getting 40 and 20 in the NBA Cup title game yet Bron got the MVP. That would never happen with Luka.
