on the networking issue, it is bullshyt. as soon as i feel that someone i meet is socializing with me to get ahead, to use me to find a job, i cut them off. networking is complete fukken bullshyt

find people with similar interests as you. those are genuine connections. don't use people and pretend that you are not.

get a head hunter. put an ad out there offering your services. instead of emailing a resume walk that damn resume into the office and state your name, the job you are interested in and hand over the resume.

the real problem is this economic system. it is our duty to change the system so that the next generation does NOT have to go through what we are going through. we aren't the problem, brehs and brehettes. capitalism is.

Blame yourselves.

Most of you ninjas on this site are NOT articulate.

Most of you cannot write a grammatically correct sentence. I'm pretty sure this is an issue with your speech as well.

You may think it's "cool" and it "shouldn't matter" but it DOES matter. No company wants an inarticulate idiot being the face of their company. No, sir, you belong in the fields making $7.50 an hour for your unskilled labor and lack of education.

Stay in school.
Read a book.
Educate yourselves on sentence structure and grammar.
Stop walking around looking and talking like thugs and first graders.
Go to college or trade school.
Study something practical and employable like engineering.

Those of us who took education SERIOUSLY and studied something that makes us EMPLOYABLE aren't hurting for jobs. :win:

:comeon: Even if you think that did you not read what I said In this thread at all?

shyt, I been in the professional world full time since 2000, when I graduate from college. My resume is decent, but I'm not above lying. I dont lie about places I worked, but I sure will say I have done more shyt than I have done, and have professional references to back me up. companies can basically background check to verify u worked at a place, but they dont know what u did exactly. also, I ALWAYS lie about salary if they make me tell them how much I made. Usually I had an extra $5K to it so I know I'm at least getting that much of a raise if they wanna hire me.

I've spent the last 7 years in media and very few of my skills translate into the real world. :ojflabby: :snoop:

Doesn't help that employers are basically looking for employees that don't exist. They're basically :flabbybron:

Don't even get me started on applying for government gigs. :sadcam:

TV promotions and production. Pretty self explanatory.

Put it to you like this: I've worked for 4 different promotions directors the last 5 years...which is why I decided against getting into management.

One subpar ratings period and you're DONE.

DON'T DO IT. DO ****___NOT___*** DO IT.

All the media companies are "readjusting" peoples job titles and responsibilities to low-ball people even worse. It's bad enough to work for so little pay. They're only trying to make it worse.

I'm telling you. You get a job in TV and  because your main skills can't translate into anything else by TV work. :snoop:

what makes you say that? Have you worked a couple years in the industry? Have executives low balled your salary for too much work you were putting in? Where you in production companies or TV stations? c'mon breh you gotta give details. :lupe:

exact shyt I believe in :lawd: I mean the only problem fukkin up the game is the fact that most jobs now a days are strictly apply online and the people you hand your resume to will say that. Hell, even a regular ass part-time job you gotta apply online which is fukked.

Go to the place you have an interest and ask for a supervisor, hiring manager, executive etc. fukk it, what else you have to lose :manny:

Networking is easier said than done.

Most people get jobs or into companies through relatives and friends they have know for a long time.

That Good ole boys network is unbeatable.

The struggle is realer for us than it was for our parents :sadcam: :snoop:

They don't understand the 2013 job hunt. First everything is online so you can't even show your face and present yourself, you're just a number. Then to fill out these online apps you gotta make a username, verify emails, fill out the 30 minute questionaire, and that's just for ONE job app. Then it's no more calling human resources and following up on an app, they just hit you with "it's in the system for review".

It's a different world out here now, and I see the absence of jobs becoming a real problem in the future

How can a new employer find out you're embellishing job duties from your previous employer?

Here's a hint: they CAN'T.

The whole name of the game is matching keywords from the job posting inside your skills and duties sections of your résumé. Most HRs have an automated system that cuts down the number of applicants before an HR rep can even see it.

Don't lie. Embellish. And match keywords.

That "it's not about what you know, but who you know" jargon should have been inbred in us, instead of the get a college degree, and your feet will be immediately in the door bullshyt :pacspit:

Also, internship in college is fukking useless, unless your daddy knows somebody that knows somebody, or great grandfather funded the company:wtb:

Nepotism is real, brehs:mjcry:

Nas's Black Girl Lost was always a real song to me, but never did I imagine a decade later, I be able to relate:

You gettin interviewed, but your boss is into gettin screwed
Typical day that the black girl sees
Comin home wantin more from a college degree

underpayed/underworked and over qualified, but no "decent" gigs you actually "qualify" for :shaq2:

It is tempting to just lie (or bend the truth) for some of these gigs, since I'm about certain they don't require much thought or effort during an average workday, though they require X amount of years experience/education. Plus, you see the folks they do hire and it's :wtf:, so something's up.

Pre-emptive :pacspit: and :pachaha:@ the next job listing...

:ohlawd: so much relevance to my own situation in this post!

Nepotism is alive and well in your public sector utopia. In the real world, it's not nearly as prominent.

But yes, having friends that can refer you is called networking. Would you rather hire someone you know is a good worker or someone that comes in blind?

I've been unemployed since 2007. I can't even estimate how many jobs I've applied to over the years. So far, I've only had 3 interviews with companies that I've found on my own and about 10 from staffing agencies. I've been making it (on a wing and a prayer) from jobs that the staffing agencies have hooked me up with.

Keywords is bullshyt! I have customized and tailored my resume for every job I've applied to and have received nothing other than the acknowledgement that my resume was received.

My last and final option is to join the military. My friends and family are strongly against this but they don't realize how bad my struggle for permanent employment is. My friends have stated that joining the military is exactly what "they" want but what is my other option? I've been waiting and applying like crazy but nothing is biting.

And Sallie Mae is eating half of my unemployment check :sadbron:
