You work in psychology. So please post evidence to back up your claims. Your degree and the fact you work in labs should make this easy.

Evidence of what? We can't go back 2000 years and give Ancient Egyptian's EEGs. breh. We can't sit a Kushyte down and tell them keep a diary of all their internal thoughts.

You are incorrect.

These disorders you mention are absolutely based in biology. They are, however, incredibly over-diagnosed.

Nope. People have biological dispositions but it is the their environment that brings it to fruition. It's their conscious thought that keeps it in place.

Evidence that Biological depression is a myth. Also, OCD and ADHD while your at it.

You're the one claiming they're solely biological. You should be able to find plenty of literature, if that is the case. I guarantee most of the discourse on all of those diseases will largely discuss how the environment plays a huge role.

Ok, breh. I have a degree in Psych, worked in cog neuro labs, and studied under some of the leaders in Personality Psych. Keep spewing babble.

OK. Then you should have no problem posting some peer-reviewed journal articles saying that depression is merely an "excuse" and everyone can get over it.

Where did I say they should "get over it?" You keep spewing impotent nonsense. There are real live human beings living and coping with mental illness and succeeding in today's world. Living, breathing proof. I know it's hard to believe. There are people with SIGNIFICANTLY tougher deficits managing to excel in today's world.

You're back pedaling. At first you said biological depression isn't real. Now biology plays a part? I've been saying that both biology and environment have roles.

I've said from the start that Depression, along with other mental illnesses, are largely environmental, along with biological predispositions. You won't find a post in here that says biology doesn't play apart. That isn't the same as "Biological depression", which is what you said and means it is wholly biological. Depression isn't sickle-cell anemia or AIDS, breh.

This is somewhat unrelated but, why do you seem to be so offended that some people kill themselves? It's like you're taking it personal. So what if other people have it harder? What does that have to do with them?

Why is it people with depressed family members are more likely to be diagnosed with depression then?

It's the act of a coward. If people would stop making excuses for people and robbing them of their volition and instead promoted self-aware modes of thinking, people could cope and learn to live a very fulfilling life. There us a small subset of people I'd have pity on who can't deal with the cards they were handed, not in this case.

Because they witness the behavior first hand and interpret, mimic, and internalize it. Some it is genetics, as well. Look up "monkey" and "mirror" neurons. To interpret other people's behavior, we internalize or we implicitly mimic it in our minds, so if you're around someone who is always depressed then of course you'd interpret the world on similar terms....

Do all depressed people "act depressed" though? How can you mimic what someone is trying to hide from you?

It's not an excuse. It's a valid explanation.
