Jobs that Require Travel

How many people have jobs that require frequent travel?
Do you you like it? I work in IT and I am looking for a position like that, but dont know where to start.. I know one of the many IT guys here has a job like this and can point me in the right direction.

I travel a few times a year and I couldn't really imagine doing more than that. You end up drinking more, eating worse, sleeping less. On the other hand, if you are into cheating on your s/o it's the perfect job for you. No place more anonymous than a hotel bar :many:

U had a job years ago that required it..Its cool for the first month then sucks after that..made me hate airports, eating out, and hotels..its easy to gain weight also because always on the move and lack of nutritional foods..You also dont get to spend time with family so it gets old real quick.

i turned down a job with Hess building out their video conference infrastructure. i would have had to travel to every location, spec and build out a telepresence studio (close to 20 locations around the world) and then when it's all done, support all of the locations. i would have been away from home for 200 days out of the year. 180k a year, but sometimes, your time is more important than money. i have growing boys at home who need their father on a daily basis. so I stayed home and now i make 80k. and i have all the time in the world for my family and for myself. i think i made the right decision.

@Rayzah i would imagine that it would still get old. and if you ever desired to have a wife/family, your job would make it difficult to stick around long enough to get to know anyone well enough to start a relationship with. all in all, it's definitely not for me, married or single/kids or no kids. but if it's something that you want, then go for it. there is a lot of money to be made with a job that requires extensive travel....

I was single and no kids when I did it, still gets tiring and annoying to the point that you are happy on weeks you dont have to leave...
I mean like i said it was cool, got to go to cities meet new people (chicks specifically) but gets played out after a while, there is no substance in that life so you just do it to do it eventually.

I travel a few times a year for my job, visiting offices around the country. I actually like it because it breaks up the monotany of sitting at a desk. I just hate when they have be visit 2 or 3 cities in a week, so I'm in a new airport/hotel back to back to back

So basically, no matter how much I like traveling, having to do it all the time wears out the excitment, and I could potentially become an old loney man that posts on the coli to fill the void of not having or being able to hang with friends? It seems like I may just want the ability to travel a few times a year, and not all year.

So are you saying these types of companies are the best to work for, if I'm looking to do some traveling?

Rarely have to travel.
But I have the option of working from home, which I have been doing this week with the Metro North accident on Sunday.

The list is just a guide to the best in the industry. Don't pay too much attention to the rankings though. But yeah if you are looking to travel in IT, consulting is one of the best options.

I have friends and relatives whose work requires frequent travel. Yes, they build up frequent flier miles like crazy, and the money they make is good.
Traveling constantly isn't great if you want to have a regular life. Like having friends, joining a bowling league, working out at the same gym, jogging in your neighborhood.

I worked construction a long time ago and was away from home all the time. I didn't have luggage. I put all my clothes in a big hockey bag.
