So that's likely why his cognitive brain functioning and health were declining towards the end of his presidency.

Not specifically from being old but rather due to the cancer slowly developing in his body, even tho it's prostate, cancer anywhere in the body can affect overall health and performance in other places.

I've always thought it had something to do with the fact that he had 2 brain aneurysms in 1988 3 months apart from each other.

Doctors found blood in his spinal fluid, and then a dangerous balloon-shaped bulge — an aneurysm — on an artery wall at the base of the brain. Even worse, Biden’s aneurysm had already burst, leaking blood around the base of his brain.

The danger was immense: If the aneurysm burst again and sent blood coursing into his brain, it could mentally and physically disable him — or be fatal.

A priest was called to his bedside to deliver last rites, but Jill Biden, who had been ordered to stay out of the room, burst in, yelling at him to leave. “You’re not giving him the last rites. He’s not going to die,” she said, according to an account by Biden’s sister, Valerie.

Now there was only one hope, the doctors concluded: Biden needed immediate, risky surgery.

Jill Biden wrote in her autobiography that a doctor told her there was “a fifty-fifty chance Joe wouldn’t survive surgery.” She wrote that she was told “it was even more likely Joe would have permanent brain damage if he survived. And if any part of his brain would be adversely affected, it would be the area that governed speech.”

Doctors in the article claim he made a full recovery but I think with this age there might still be something going on with that.

That makes him and his legacy look even worse actually.

If he and his team (and whoever else) knew of this issue, yet still allowed him to run initially run for presidency anyways at the expense of an open primary and replacement having more time, then that should be a stain on his legacy and rightfully so.

Reagan’s entire second term was him with dementia. Hasn’t seem to tarnish his legacy not one bit.

Your narrative that he was completely unaware of what was going on just doesn’t fly.

It's possible his cancer wasn't present during the last year or so of his term and just recently became detected, we don't know for sure.

I doubt it was present during the first 2-3 years of his term; it is possible during the last bit of term, they knew he was sick like most of the public believed, but not “cancer sick” and thought it was just him getting old and declining.

Cancer probably started developing during the final year, that's the year when his cognitive function got worse, leading to him stepping down during his campaign, and probably got worse/detected after his term ended.
