5 seasons he's played in out of 6, and it's not as if the Pelicans were a lottery team all those seasons. He just happened to get hurt right before they made the playoffs.
Zach Lavine didn't make the playoffs until his 8th season. DeMarcus Cousins didn't make it until year 9.

You can’t trade Zion now. He’s still fairly young and his contract is cheap. Joe has to hope that Zion comes to camp motivated, in shape and past his personal problems.

Basketball is a team game. Which Lavine team was supposed to make the playoffs prior to DeRozan's arrival? Cousins would've made the playoffs prior to that in New Orleans, but tore his ACL.
