Ex-NFL running back Joe McKnight was murdered in a road rage shooting in New Orleans ... law enforcement tells TMZ Sports.
The incident occurred at 2:43 PM. Family members identified the 28-year-old at the scene.
A witness told NOLA.com ... she saw McKnight trying to apologize to another man after some sort of traffic incident.
The witness says the man then pulled out a gun and shot McKnight -- and while standing over him screamed, "I told you not to f**k with me" ... then fired another shot into his body.
Cops say they have detained a man they believe to be the shooter -- 54-year-old Ronald Gasser.
Cops say McKnight did NOT have a gun at the time of the shooting.
Emergency responders tried to administer CPR but to no avail.
This was a cold lynching. This cac needs to be given the death penalty.

Your statement would have made more sense, if he was out, and he was on the way home, and say a family member called and asked him to goto the grocery store, which put him on the same road as that guy

yea, because that stuff has been going on in road rage incidents for decades. aggressive, angry drivers are nothing new. what emboldened will smiths killer to bring out the heater in an argument over a fender bender? or any of the other hundreds of road rage deaths each year, long before president trump was even a pipe dream? was just some a$$holes with a short fuse, and those are on the roadways by the thousands every day. someone just posted in here about a guy he knew who would track people down to their cribs after being pissed off in traffic. that type of crazy was all over the roads long before trump came around, and will be there long after
