Generally speaking I saw no negativity about him on twitter tonight but I didnt see high praise either and this is the first review
Saturday Night Live Season 42 review: Was John Cena funny?
Its gonna be tough for him man, he's as generic as his character so if he wants to crossover he's gonna have to shed even more than Trainwreck (which wasnt even shedding as much as it was parodying himself). He's not Rock in that way where he came up in a era where you can balance mainstream accessibality and charisma with being risky. Even now the PG Rock of the last five years is different than early Rock which is why I liked his early gigs post WWE in the mid 2000s like Southland Tales for at least being interesting.
I know its only SNL but from a crossover standpoint it seen as a measuring point and hes gonna do comedies with writers from that show so him kinda striking out at worse and not knocking out the park at best is gonna indicate a few things.
Rock's first SNL performance might not have aged well to some here but at the time it was a big hit with critics and viewers and launched him to crossover fully. Not sure tonight did that.
We may see more Cena in the next few years than you think on WWE and perhaps settle in a Jericho/Austin/Piper lane than a Rock lane which isnt too bad either
Now watch this get re-up when he does blow up to show how wrong I am lol

I take back everything I said about The Simpsons. Even though the show has become
, at least the show is only 30 minutes and you'll still get a chuckle now and then. SNL is a chore to sit through and is way too long. Kind of like another show Cena used to appear on
