This also begs the question. How did this movie get greenlit? A new IP with a decent budget? That almost never happens

They can only make but so many $200+ million dollar flops before they use common sense and start producing lower budget movies.

Gareth Edwards and the cinematographer made this look like a big budget movie. That's talent and execution.

Heavy sci-fi movies like this one which is similar to Ex Machina, Blade Runner, etc...rarely do extremely well. So it'll probably just do ok.

Even I Robot with Will Smith at his peak only did around $350 million.
