Just read the recent articles posted in the thread.
At times, he comes across an Fox News audience member, doggedly sticking to incorrect views come hell or high-water, and other times, he sounds like a depressed person flailing for meaning. The articles legit have a quote about Chuck Schumer telling other Dems that they should be nice and talk to him more. That's embarrassing as a kid, let alone a full grown adult.
On the one hand, it seems clear that he is spiraling mentally and deserves some modicum of compassion, but OTOH, he is clearly wrong in a lot of places and fails to grasp that as a representative of the people, he needs to do his job and represent the people. Complaining about hecklers and skipping events are not acceptable as a politician.
I chalked him up as a lost cause when I saw him taunting pro-Palestine protesters. I think he's still a lost cause, but knowing that it is mental illness behind some of his actions make them appear slightly less evil

I haven't seen him change much on his core beliefs just folks thought because he was billed as a blue collar progressive that he wasn't just your typical union bro.
What makes it seem more like mental illness is that the people being affected are all people that appear to have known him before the stroke. Staffers not just jumping ship but also penning a letter to his doctor about his behavior and privately questioning whether he is taking his medication.

Actions like disappearing on your kid's birthday to visit the gravesite of a dead childhood friend is sus behavior. He might appear like he was always like this w/ revisionist history, but even his wife is quoted as initially thinking/accusing/hoping that the staffers were behind the terrible positions he was taking publicly, and is quoted as being overheard asking "Where is the man that I married???" in the article
I obviously wouldn't vote for him given the chance, but I can still objectively see that this person is unwell.
