He was a warhawk who was largely responsible for the propaganda that led to the Iraq war that killed millions of innocent people....he also married into generational wealth that largely funded some of shytty political leanings in his younger days...

Only respectable thing he did was stand up for Obama leading up to the 08 election,he wouldn t let his base disrespect him at his rallies....

You know what's scary though...... he might have been the best Republican Senator by a LARGE berth. Cause he also did this.....

McCain's legacy is weird. He was a piece of shyt but occasionally did the right thing maybe not for the right reason. However, the effect was still great. Like dude took the Steel Dossier to the FBI, but also was involved with the saving and loan crisis that ruined people's lives.
He did this because or a personal beef with Trump not because it was the right reason. :gucci:

Give that man his respect, plane was shot down in Vietnam and they stabbed his ass multiple times and dragged him out of the water when they got to him - tortured the man for years and he endured it even though they offered to have him free based on who his father was. Don't know much about the man, but I know in Vietnam they have a love hate relationship with the man - he invaded their country but the character he showed while getting tortured and crippled earned their respect. R.I.P. Big John, we hardly knew yee. :salute:

He didn't do it for the right reason. He did it to mess up Trump... he said it was cause of "regular" order but yet a few months later voted for the tax scam that got rid of the individual mandate in the ACA...

He opposed mlk day

Yeah he did but I read he did it because of the effects another Federal holiday would have on the economics of Arizona which wasn't doing so well at the time. Might be the white washed version.

Anywhoodles the reason why the passing of McCain is lamented is because whether or not you disagree with his politics he harkens back to an era of less partisan politics. He was a Republican through and through and if you expected him to abandon the party well you're out of luck obviously but it was obvious he saw Dems as political opponents instead of ideological enemies to be given absolutely no quarter.

Those last few years had to be rough as the party slipped further into insanity and yeah he of course had some role to play as a party leader but I'm pretty sure what we see now isn't what he wanted but he was only one man. Also, in this era there's no point in trying to disavow a Republican history as you're still going to be shyt on so he may as well have held on to those Reagan-Bush II era values to the end. At least he didn't go out being accused of cowardly virtue signaling.

He wasn't perfect but he was a GOP politician so he was going to be a flawed figure no matter what. I ain't gonna dance on his grave because there's far worse out there and despite you all thinking the GOP is dead (you all been saying this since 2012) it has a lot of life left and the life blood are a bunch of young tea party types. You all will long for the days of the old Corporate/Large Government GOP and I have told people this since 2010. McCain was one of the last ones left that didn't throw himself in with the Trumptards.

If Trump's inevitable ouster causes disenchantment with the current crop of outwardly racist, idiot GOP I see a return to a Bush-Koch led party and those purges and shamings are going to be :banderas:

Anyway, that's my adderall induced Sunday morning toilet ramble.

Its curious that left leaning Americans seem to be more furious about McCain than many Iraqis and Vietnamese themselves :patrice: More Catholic than the Pope :patrice: Could it be, that foreign policy debates in the States are much more about domestic politics, than they are about international affairs per se? :patrice:

He was wrong on the Iraq war, but he was right on Bosnia. He also had a decent position on Syria and tried to negotiate a solution to the impending Raba'a massacre in Egypt. His record isnt exactly as black and white as some are suggesting here.

As far as I can see, McCain's death isnt major news on most Iraqi outlets.

In Vietnam, he actually has a decent standing, as the country has evolved and tried to carve out a an independent position between American and Chinese influence. See:

The hagiography is annoying sure, but the moral preening from rose flower twitter on foreign policy is hypocritical as hell, especially in light of their positions on Syria.
