He cannot be serious.

Appearing on the “Jimmy Kimmel Show,” seven-time grand slam champion/56-year-old John McEnroe shared that he thinks he could currently win a match against 33-year-old Serena Williams, who could become the first player in 27 years to complete a calendar grand slam with a US Open title next month.

“I believe that I could still take her,” McEnroe said with a wide smile.

McEnroe, who retired in 1992 but often plays in senior events, is one year older than Bobby Riggs was when he lost to Billie Jean King in the famed Battle of the Sexes match in 1973.

The former world No. 1 noted the match likely would never happen, but shares the curiosity of so many tennis fans.

“Fifteen years ago Donald Trump … made an offer which I felt like was not enough,” McEnroe said of a proposed exhibition match. “And I think he was humoring the two of us. And Serena, she’s got a lot to lose by losing to an old fart like myself. And I’ve got a lot to lose because if I lose to — God forbid — a woman, then I’m not allowed in any men’s locker room for the next 15 years or possibly the end of my life, so that’s part of why it’s intriguing.”

He old as hell. Billie Jean beat Riggs when she was 26 years younger I wikipediad it. Apparently the Williams sister had also had a battle of the sexes:

A fourth event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open[30] between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams, aged 17 and 16 respectively, had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked below 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park.[31] Braasch first took on Serena and beat her 6–1. He then played Venus and won 6–2.[32] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance." He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun."[33]
