I'm listening to Brian Windhorst podcast and they're discussing the Wizards and said. Even though his max hasn't kicked in yet. If traded Washington will still owe him a 21 million dollar trade kicker from the new deal. It is negotiate but John will want most of it

what does this mean? he gets an additional $21M above what they have to pay him for his supermax deal that he's already signed to?

If they trade him before his supermax kicks in next season. He is still owed 21 million by the wizards for his trade kicker from his new deal.

They have to pay him because it's apart of his overall contract. Even though his supermax hasn't kicked in. It's still a signed and sealed deal. I hope this helps

It does not. Are you saying that if they trade him this year that they will owe him 21 mil out of his upcoming extension and his new team covers the remainder? Will it count against their cap? Against the new team's?

There's been a thread about Mike Conley and his contract as well, same situation with CP3's contract. But at the end of the day you either pay your star player whatever he wants or he walks away and you can't sign anyone decent.

$35-40 million to a player that will be 33 years old and still on the books:hula: have him walk away and be cap tied/unable to sign a star free agent for years

I think the new team would pick up his deal And the wizards would have to pay him $21 million on top of that

How is a free agent tying up your cap?
