It wasn't expected to be the iconic film it turned out to be. It was one of those one-off things that worked, and led to unquestionably less funny sequels.

Friday took place in two places: Craig's lil neighborhood and the liquor store:russ:but it was like we got a glimpse into a life full of fukkery when we barely left

the front porch. Its a legit cinematic classic that holds up.

Exactly.....but yet you can only give one of the lead characters 6k?!?!

Sound like Cube pulled a "Diddy" move :mjpls:
Yep. There's ways to make sure artist gets paid from the money the movie makes on the back end. DVD sales. Downloads. Royalties. Etc. If I couldn't pay someone their worth up front I'd give up a percentage of ownership of the film to them so they'll make money on the back end of it.

Long and slow money over bulk payments.

yeah that's called RESIDUAL ROYALTIES.....either Cube pulled a mean finesse game over them...or John Witherspoon said "fukk a contract" ...and just did out of the love

and with all the movie streaming sites to choose from ...i.e (netflix..crackle...amazon) etc.

it should be a gang of revenue that all the cast members could eat from :ohhh:

He did it out of love while cube was all business. I really hate cats like him and dre. They game nikkas up, talking casually and shyt, when they're really all business.

They're no better than the bankers who preyed on people who didn't know better and signed a ghetto loan.

I feel like a lot of older black men do this to young black men looking for an opportunity. It's one thing to get exploited by the white man, but when it's another black person it hurts the most I think.

Edit: whether I like younger black men or not I give them the game with no strings attached. We all we got.

yup!!! you are right!

you're a GOOD MAN dude.....one of the few

that's just like me....when i do business with people regardless if they young or old..male or female i try not to exploit thier "ignorance" for personal gain...

i just gave back this young man damn thier triple his investment on a venture i was involved in...he's been forever grateful and loyal ever since...

i truly feel genorisity is MORE appreciated amongst the young when a older cat is straight up with them..just like the OG's did for me in my life.......

3.5 mill is a lot for a indie budget....I'm guessing most of it came out of cubes pockets ...

Dude, NOBODY GOT PAID FOR THE FIRST FRIDAY! It was a low budget hood money. Everybody got chump change for the movie except the producers. Maybe they did or didn't expect to be the cult classic it is but literally every main character in the film worked on more expensive movie/tv sets prior to working on Friday so they knew what they were getting into.

Nobody was rubbing they hands together thinking this movie was a come up, if anything they read the script and probably decided to do the movie based on that rather than upfront money. Obviously it was worth it, just about everybody in that movie went on to bigger and better things so in the end it was worth it.

THEY KNEW WHAT THE PAY WAS BEFORE DOING ONE SINGLE SECOND OF SHOOTING

If they had gotten screwed after the fact, that'd be a whole different topic.

Man I tell you kats not being realistic. That movie was a low budget film done in 1995. shyt the film only cost like 3 mill to make and was shot in 30 days.

Mr. Witherspoon states that he got bad a hell of a lot more in the other movies and wants to make another Friday cause the checks are fat and he doesn't have to do shyt.

Also folks keep saying they were cheap and that is the reason Chris Tucker won't do another movie.

Noooo Chris Tucker ain't wasn't doing another movie cause he could be paid millions to do rolls like in Rush Hour.

Chris doesn't even like hollywood. That dude doesn't even really do movies. Once he found something to pimp and make good money off of and doing little work he ran with that. Which I don't blame him at all.

Trust if Friday could pay Chris 30 mill he would be back playing the role of smokey. But they don't have a budget like that for a movie who at the most on a rated R black cast movie that will make about 80 mill at the most.
