He fought how many world champions? :what:

He just aged out. And his injuries have caught up to him. That's it.

Could that not be a factor in him being scared?

Scared does not mean he is frighted of Aspinall the man, it could be what an L does to his legacy, what an L does to his mind etc

The report is that he received the money he was asking for, agreed to the fight, and then changed his mind.

The idea that he might be put in situations where he'd need to be asked about this new charge probably didn't appeal to him.

The sort of people that would ask those questions don't get UFC access generally as most MMA media is p*ssy and just sucks the ufc/fighters off.

As an extreme casual this seems off ..just because it’s more accessible doesn’t make it more mainstream.

There was a time where shyt was so buzzing even casuals like me were aware when shyt was going on/who was running it

Silva,Ortiz,Liddell,Connor,Bones,Rousey,Cormier,etc…

The hype isn’t the same for a guy like me to get interested in and checking out a PPV…

That's fair, while MMA is now more mainstream than in the past, the star power is not the same.

Villa Straylight.
Real talk people talk about MM like Domink Cruz didn't manhandle him and the 125 division (which he moved down to) being notoriously shallow for like....forever.

I don't wanna take away from the guy, he's an all time great. But the GOAT talk was always hyperbole
I don't think so 11 title defenses against trained fighters isn't anything to scoff at.

I can't believe people in here saying Jones is scared. He destroyed every fighter ever placed in front of him and has almost no weaknesses as a fighter. But yea I'm sure Aspinall would have found a way to beat him :comeon:
People get old and eventually their physical abilities dimish. It's a fact. These are human beings, not comic book characters.

If he knew he was going to stall the division, then he should have relinquished the belts as soon as he beat Stipe like someone else said.

Looks now like he was either waiting for Tom to lose or get tied up in another fight. They literally waited for him and he eventually decided to retire than take the fight.

It's a fight, so anyone could win, but Tom is clearly the best HW in the world. Jones himself avoided all questions related to Aspinall and said he wasn't interested in fighting dangerous up and comers. He basically admitted to avoiding the fight. If they gave him the Alex Pereira fight, he wouldn't be retired right now.

Yeah, the bolded is really the issue here. Breh held up the the division trying to force a money fight with Pereira that honestly never needed the title involved to do numbers in the first place.

If we're being completely honest, Jones vacating to chase the Pereira fight, and then the Aspinall fight being promoted as him coming back for the belt he never actually lost is just as effective from a promotional standpoint as a unification fight. Maybe even better. Breh just held onto the belt to strengthen his negotiating position, which is understandable, but all criticism that comes along with pulling that move is also valid, especially when the end result is that neither the Pereira or Aspinall fights ever happened.
