24 years old is old enough to understand the consequences of gambling especially since NBA rules clearly prohibit it.

Remember, being in the league is a privilege and not a right. If you fukk up, then there’s always someone else waiting to take your spot.
No excuses for this. I do not care if he did not understand the ramifications of betting as a player, he was told not to. We can not let people treat him like a child, he is an adult like you said. He knows better.

Porter is 24 years old, he's a youngin. I wouldn't rule out he was influence by the constant marketing and promoting of Gambling by the NBA and other Sports leagues and channels. Why are Sports Leagues and ESPN advertising Gambling so hard. There are ads to gamble everywhere. If it's so bad and wrong, why promote it so much? When I grew up they didn't advertise this stuff. Now you got Athletes like Tom Brady promoting it. Every time I saw an NFL game last year, there was a Gambling or advertisement. Same with the NBA. The fact is they saw a chance to make more money and this and the Ohtani situation is just the beginning of the consequences of normalizing it. I have a feeling lower-tier players like Porter will take the risk.

:dahell:

They're promoting it for regular people not the athletes playing the sport.

Everyone who plays sports knows from the time they're kids that you can't do what Porter did. The leagues make sure to communicate that to them as adults. No one is ignorant of the rules.

It doesn't even make sense because the money you can make in the league is far greater than you can make gambling. He already made 2 mil and is young enough that he could have stuck around for a few years at the end of the bench earning the minimum. That's out the window now.

No excuses.

He thought no one would notice 80k bet on a random two way player :dead:
nikka is completely retarded. FYI - Vegas tracks all this shyt, once they see an irregular bet like that it's immediately flagged and investigated

If he wasn't so god damn greedy he could've gotten away with it for way longer

No. But it was raised by integrity monitoring and investigated by the league. They either couldn’t tie it back to him directly or didn’t dig too deep.

Wow. How much money was put down cumulatively?

Meanwhile the NBA had a Bet Cast on TruTV last night. They can’t have it both ways :yeshrug:

You can’t plaster every game and ad with gambling and expect players not to eat too
Same rules apply for NBA and Team employees. They have orientations and module telling you NOT to bet on NBA games....bet on anything else BUT the NBA.

Yes the fukk they can have it both ways lol. This is like saying "you can't have Fidelity and Charles Schwab running commercials all day and not expect people to do insider trading". The Chicago Black Sox happened over 100 years ago and gambling was more prevalent in society back then... this isn't a new problem.

"The players in the game don't get to bet on the game" is a very simple and basic rule that has been in effect for hundreds of years. Maybe thousands...
