McCown is reckless but his lone long ass drive against the Jets defense sans the fumble/concussion was impressive.

The Browns prepared the entire summer to have McCown start the season. I don't get the confusion here.

Is McCown gonna lead the Browns to the playoffs? :comeon:

They need to figure out if Manziel's the QB of the future, because McCown sure as hell isn't

McCown was named starter at the beginning of training camp. He's only had one drive and his only mistake was diving into the end zone instead of sliding. He's earned more time to show what he could do in this offense.

Johnny has a long way to go physically and mentally. He didn't even know the plays last season and clearly had/has substance abuse issues. He will get his shot.

I get all that, I even said that Pettine sees these guys day in, day out and he's probably going with the best guy to win next week's game, but what's the endgame here? Go 8-8 with McCown, miss the playoffs... then what? Do it all over again next year? I think there's value in letting Manziel take his lumps, learn on the job and go from there in 2016. If he still doesn't answer the bell in 2016, then you can move on with no guilt.

You shouldnt lose your job to injury :manny:

Johnny did look better but hes not ready. I think they ride josh the rest of the season and then unleash johnny next year.

I think its the smart move. Manziel needs to sit and learn and be humbled.

So the coach should put his job on the line to see what Manziel offers as starter?

Their goal is to win games.

They were able to fix some things last Sunday with the pass rush which was their biggest defensive flaw (that and containing the rush on the edges).

They are going to lean heavy on the defense, run game, and special teams. They don't turn the ball over they can hang with any team.

There was a reason why Johnny only had 21 pass attempts. They clearly don't trust him to make decisions at this point and/or worried about him getting strip sacked.

Pettine's a good coach, he went 7-9 last year with a shyt team. He's got job security. I think this is a tactical win, but strategic loss here. Starting McCown does nothing short or long term for the Browns

I get your point but 8-8 saves the coaches job for one more year and 3-13 or whatever, picking at the top of the draft gets you fired. I don't know how this will play out but I understand and am cool with how it's working. At the end of the day, they believe McCown gives them the best chance to win & I agree with their assessment. Also, this is a brand new offense & McCown has prior experience working with our OC. It's a lot of stuff

Would you put your faith in Josh McCown?
If the alternative is a dude who got out of rehab a few months ago... probably

Coaching staff clearly feels Mccown is better, they watch these guys everyday, I'll go with it

Outside of his time in Chicago...McCown has been terrible :francis:

And that was what, 5 or 6 games?

Why is McCown owed anything, he was awful last season on the Bucs. :yeshrug:

To me he put his job on the line (or at least the GM did) when they decided that this was the best they could do in FA/Draft. :manny:

If they're not playing Manziel it should be because the talent around him is terrible and they dont want to crush his confidence again :ehh:

Let McCown be sent to the wolves.

What the fukk is Manziel owed?! Dude had one of the most disastrous rookie seasons from a 1st round pick I can remember

Exactly. They both were two shytty QBs last season.
One of them is 22 and just came off a win where he made a few plays.

If Manziel is terrible...oh well you get the #1 pick. If he's good, hey you might have a future QB.

McCown is going to get you, 3 or 4 more wins maybe? The downside to Manziel is he maybe only gets you 1 or 2. Are those few games that big of a deal?

The only reason to sit him is because you value his future and are worried his confidence could take a major hit playing with no good supporting cast. :yeshrug:
