His skillset wasn’t universally needed everywhere. He was good in Houston and seemed to regain his career after faltering in Detroit. Houston offered him a contract to come back and he chose LA clippers because they offer d him slightly more money(like a couple hundred thousand and more) and they had no role for him whereas he had a defined role in Houston. Dude could’ve thrived in Houston for another season or two but chose money and the conclusion of his career.
Ppl forget he left The Hawks who was offering the most to stay to go Detroit. He just makes bad decisions when it comes to his career.

J-Smoove would be playing home games at Philips Arena...pull up from 11-24 feet and folks would scream NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! when it even looked like he was about to shoot

I think people forget how quickly some guys fall off when their athleticism goes. There have always been a LOT of players who fell out of the league at ages 30-32.
Especially if you have low bball IQ. If you have high bball IQ then it's worth keeping you around the court because you can fulfill your role and won't screw things up for the players actually getting stuff done. But if you are a low IQ player, then the moment your athleticism fades there's no reason to keep you on the court (unless you have held onto a knockdown shot or size), you'll take bad shots and mess stuff up for everyone else.
The players who stick around late into their 30s - Andre Miller, Manu, Duncan, David West, Pau - are usually guys who you trust to make the right play regardless of their role.

Fail to make the WCF because Josh Smith suddenly hits 4 threes in a quarter.
The injuries always coming at the worst times, the random Blake collapses, that blown finish against OKC, teammates choking at the worst moments, and the Josh Smith game.
Rockets were -20 with Harden on the court that game and +32 with him off the court.
I swear I seen 4-5 other Rockets playoff games where they won solely because of the run they went on when Harden was on the bench.

You say that like he gives a shyt about what you want him to do. When he was with the Hawks when he would pull up from 3 the whole damn arena would scream "Nooooooooooooo" and the coaches would hang their heads. Did that stop him? Hall naw. He doesnt give a damn about the role you want him to play. He would grab a rebound, run past the PG who was begging for the ball, and commit a turnover trying to cross someone at least once a game. Guaranteed.
