Love what he's saying, he just needs to do some research...Europe is know as one of the most popular places for charities to build and flourish....the whole "Eurocentric" angle he keeps repeating is used incorrectly here. Besides that, yes opening up a gym for an athlete getting paid hundreds of millions is chump change (50,000), especially when they're seen with million dollar jewelry and tossing out thousands of dollars at the strip club. The hard pill to swallow, is that a lot of these men, are still kids from the ghetto, who got rich for playing a backyard game. They weren't taught structure, stocks and bonds, etc. They still think "diversify your bonds" is a Chappelle joke and not a very real piece of fiduciary advice.

Europeans developed the notion of property rights and land ownership you cacs are selfish and destructive by nature that's what he means.

It’s crazy because over the past week I was thinking about how these rich athletes and entertainers don’t REALLY care about the communities like that. Even as they do great things for people and communities, in the grand scheme, it’s not as important as they would have you believe when you consider the change they could actually bring if it was a priority.

I saw a mention of LeBron and his 6 million dollar watch and I’m thinking, 6 million dollars my nikka? For what? If you didn’t have that watch you wouldn’t miss it. Imagine what poor school system you could save with that much money, and still write it off on your taxes (assuming he had to actually pay for the watch).

And this goes ten fold for these rich white billionaires like Jeff Bezos. Donating a few thousand here and there when it would be like us donating $50.

We don’t really care, we just like the praise that comes with the appearance of us caring.

He’s 100% right.

The stars could easily start their own NBA if they wanted to.

they would have no problem securing college arenas (star power and ticket sales)

no problem securing TV rights

it’s a shame that they don’t think this way on a huge scale :francis:

You need a hell of a lot more than arenas and TV rights. You're ignoring a ton of factors. The infrastructure it takes to run the NBA is massive and the players would have to foot the bill for all of it.

It would not be easy. Teams spend about 3.5 million a year on charter flights alone. You still need coaches, trainers, medical staff, executive staff, a governing body, scouts, insurance, accountants, lawyers, branding, etc. They're not running pick up games this a professional operation. Everyone not on the court would be out of a job.

NBA salaries are insane now. A superstar can get $200 million. Players would be taking huge pay cuts to start a league so it's not realistic to expect them to walk away from 9 figures. Tell Steph Curry to rip up this contract:

2021/22 $45,780,966
2022/23 $48,070,014
2023/24 $51,915,615
2024/25 $55,761,217
2025/26 $59,606,817

It's better to pool their resources and focus on owning NBA teams after retirement or creating apparel brands or other business ventures. Building a league from the ground up is not feasible.

I agree

I didn’t do a deep dive because I was mostly agreeing on principle.

But those guys have enough pull, resources, and clout to start an alternative league.

just like you mentioned I didn’t factor in “charter flights” you’re also operating under the assumption it would be a 32 team league with nationwide games.

without nit picking and going to granular, all I’m saying is that there is strength in numbers that these athletes are not taking advantage of.

Ive been saying this for years, there could be dozens if not hundreds of "black wall streets" all across the country but nikkas rather c00n and buffoon all over the place instead of working together. Tulsa was made by black people that were literal slaved at some point in there life, what excuse does a 2022 multimillionaire have?

I remember specifically when Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by the cop Jason Vandyke.. People in the community was pleading for blacks in Chicago to pull their money from these white banks and put in Seaway bank.. A black owned bank..

You know these negros would rather protest and burn shyt down instead of working together? Since then Seaway bank has closed and nikkas still cant get a loan from the banks they have their money in..

Could you imagine if Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry

All owned their own shoe brands independently or joined together…

Let’s not forget Giannis and KD…

Above the fray.
I followed his twitter for a while when he went back to college.

it was amazing seeing him realize and learn about inequalities and how the system he exists within functions.

man has come a long way from his Henny days
The dedication it takes to beat out the other 100s of thousands of others to make it as a pro athlete leaves little time/room for social education and development.

Sometimes the athletes don't learn and develop until mid or post career. Kyrie,,another Jersey guy is moving like a first semester college student the past few years.

If they all put their money together and started the NNBA (National Negro Basketball Association) it will bury the NBA so quick. Ain’t nobody trying to see a bunch of Austin Reaves playing.
