Sixth man of the year, coming off the bench and not playing a bulk of his minutes with Melo, and when them playoffs started :francis: The next year he starts more games and his production goes in the toilet cause fat boy can't really set anyone up.

Smith out there with Bron playing defense like his life depends on it too.
His production went down the toilet because JR is inherently erratic as a player. He won that 6th man award because he had a great stretch of games where he drove to the basket as well as shooting from outside. He didn't succeed by being set up, he succeeded by controlling the ball and playing smart. No one is gonna argue whose better between Melo and Bron, but JR Smith's performance can't be an indictment on anyone because JR is JR. He left a losing team and went to play on a team with the best player in the world, that'll bring the best out of anyone for a while. Let's see how he does in a full season of play once he gets comfortable with the situation.

He had his best season with Carmelo. He won 6th man of the year with Melo:dwillhuh:

With that said, I have no problem with this. Knicks fans shytted on JR and couldn't wait to get rid of him. The same nikkas angry about this were running with the bullshyt "controversy" about JR untying some dudes shoes.

THANK YOU!!! Make em mad JR :myman:

He's not looking all that erratic with the Cavs and was one of the reasons they won that series. It's not about who's better between Melo and Bron, it's really about Melo's style of play. It's not really something anyone can play off of, he's not a driver, he's not a guy that will set people up, he's basically a 1 dimensional scorer and while he's very good at that I'd never want to build around a dude like him :francis: And that's the thing, he had to handle the ball with Melo, which realistically isn't something you want him to do because he can fall into bad habits. With the Cavs, he gets maybe 2-3 possessions a game where he creates and then the record stops, if he's got it going they keep feeding him and letting him work his matchup, if not they treat that nikka like he's Bruce Bowen and tell him to spot up.

Honestly, I do feel this is an indictment of Melo, in all his years with Melo he never played as composed as he does with LeBron. The fact that Melo isn't a creator offensively for others means that JR has to have the ball in his hands, same thing applies to Shumpert. With the Cavs, they get it and it's either shoot or pass, not much else, cause Bron sets them up :francis:

not an indictment on melo at all.

lebron is a point-forward.

meanwhile, melo lines up at PF half the time.

The fact that he had to handle the ball with Melo basically harkens back to the reason Melo has the rep he has: he's never had a good supporting cast. If JR Smith is handling the ball that much, something is wrong. JR gets to be the bench player he truly is on a Cavs team that doesn't need as much from him. As a Knicks fan, I've watched practically every possession that Melo's had with this team. He's not the black hole he's made out to be. The few times Amare has been healthy and able to play significant minutes, Melo's been a willing passer to him. The dude has vision and can make some nice passes, it's just a case of who does he pass to? Shumpert looked like he could turn into a spot up shooter/great defender who could occasionally create plays with his athleticism. That was the case for a while but then injuries turned him into a guy that might have bright spots every now and then. JR is JR. Tyson Chandler was a pick and roll guy who thrived with point guards that could run that play. Tyson was supposed to be a coup that the Mavs stole off of the bumbling Knicks. He lost in the first round to the Rockets. The Rockets, breh:beli: This isn't the regular ol Knicks fan defending the Knicks to the death. I was one of the few shytting on Shump the last two seasons and one of the very few defending JR. But I know what JR is and what you're seeing from him is what should be expected from a guy with the talent he has, and the flaws he has, who isn't being asked to do too much.

JR acts as if he & Melo wouldn't have seen a ship if the Nuggets knew how to inbounds a ball.
