Marquez: Maidana More Dangerous With MX Gloves

Four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, in the recent edition of ESPN's Golpe a Golpe, tested out Everlast's MX brand of gloves - which Floyd Mayweather Jr. has refused to allow Marcos Maidana to use in their rematch on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather also prevented Maidana from using the gloves in their May meeting.
Marquez says the MX gloves would make Maidana more dangerous, because there is less protection around the knuckle area, but it also increased the risk of suffering a hand injury. Marquez compares the MX gloves to the Cleto Reyes brand, which are regarding in the sport as "puncher's gloves."
Maidana will reportedly use Everlast's Power Lock gloves for the Mayweather rematch.
"These gloves are very light, as if they don't have much protection. I hit the and I can feel my knuckles [hit the bag]. There is less protection for the knuckles," said Marquez. "The difference I see in terms of cushioning is very similar [to Cleto Reyes]."
"It's [creates] an impact that does not have much cushion. You feel the blow, you throw a hook and feel the knuckles, feel the power of the blow, so Mayweather does not want Maidana use these gloves. Maidana already hits hard and with these gloves his punches will be even stronger. Mayweather could get hit and go right to the mat. A well connected punch can hurt Mayweather."
