Reading isn't just words/books/writing- it's understanding and comprehension you wouldn't be able to measure/ geometry, etc if you could not understand and comprehend.

In 2025 with AI, various technologies, you still get shyt that say "read the instructions and follow the steps ".

You mixing two different things.
Comprehension is required for math, reading is not.

You can understand quantities and shapes without being able read. Even babies show numerical reasoning and spatial understanding.

I feel you are breaking math down to it's lowest form of "shapes and babies " and applying that to teens and adults, and that's how they learn math but can't read.

I see where you coming from, but what i'm saying is mathematical reasoning exists independently of written language.
Humans had logic, pattern recognition long before literacy.

Ever been to a 3rd world country? You will see many illiterate people doing construction, farming math, even accounting.
And there's loads of ancient civilizations that were illiterate but built monuments, engineer irrigation systems, or run economies.

Also in China many kids learn the abacus before learning to read.
Remember entire civilizations used advanced math with low literacy rates.

But i've been to India and met illiterate accountants.
