We need To go invest in art and music programs like it was back in the 60s and 70s, in order to innovate again.
That has nothing to do with an exec not giving the greenlight to market distribute said art to the masses, I literally just was working at a world renowned animation studio looking at this shyt in real time, plenty of artists out here doing interesting shyt that's outside of the norm

There's no shortage of dope artists, they're just dealing with uncreatives on the business side of things so they can't really breakthrough into the mainstream. They're just in their niche circle of influence

Good, the fast food music is starting to die. Maybe u fools will go back to making quality music.

Yup, that mainstream sound ain’t moving nobody no more, very stagnant

The music industry, in general, is down.

But, ya'll gonna come in here with same tired talking points about Rap being dead.

This is true as well, music as a whole is in the shytter, when country music is taking over then you know shyt is fukked.

I put some of the blame on TikTok though.

This goes beyond rap. Nikkas are bored of everything and the creative entities are out of ideas

Nikkas ain't going to the movies like that anymore, Disney is in panic mode, music ain't been poppin outside of Taylor Swift, the gaming industry struggling

Everything is :russell:now
Two of the most well reviewed video games of all time came out this year. Barbie & Mario put up big numbers on the movie side. :francis:

This a rap problem.

Artists been getting a pass for releasing trash for a while now. Shorter songs, no artistry, no lyricism, no album crafting, no more dance music. People not pressured to co-sign bullshyt artists to fit in no more since internet era fans don't have the same sort of universally popular water cooler artists like in prior times so no more "u just not in touch breh :troll: ".

agreed its a rap problem. Theres no big superstars other than the people who came out over a decade ago approaching their 40’s, and theres not an influx of new artists coming in with a new sound, and if there are they aren’t really being embraced and the older stars like jay, nas, even ross and them aged out.

Booty Hole Brown is the new Rewind

We’ll never get a new OutKast, people that can push genre limits and rap good as hell while doing it :francis:

People are sick n tired of everytime they discover a new artist and start to click with their music its a very high chance that artist is gonna get smoked or locked up..
Yeah, that's definitely it! :beli:

:manny:Still listening to albums from the past and even a few years ago, i'm not complaining. When you know about rappers you enjoy you wouldn't be complaining. fukk the sales and popularity, that's not where the good music is at all the time.

Stop focusing on sales, start focusing on art and actually being a great artist…perhaps. So much terrible music by terrible artists being mass-produced and released by terrible people…focus on making better product that lasts and not just stupid shyt that little kids and white girls/smuts enjoy for a week and a half.

If the sales are down 40% they’re probably really down 80% since them streaming numbers is fugazi.

Nas, a leader in this, is showing you how to do it and everyone wants to try so hard not to notice. Focus on making great music, forget the sales, your fans/potential fans will appreciate it and show up for you in droves when you’re in their cities and buy your merch and support your outside endeavors, etc…money going crazy! Sales are politics…and it’s 2023, what even are sales anymore? All that shyt is smoke and mirrors
This - it’s honestly a necessary correction. So many dudes in the mid to late 2010s came in making the most soulless replication of others’ music, and even some of the originators of the sounds people love just have no originality or desire to push boundaries.

And those fukkING 15+ song albums from trap artists with nothing to say for 20 minutes, much less an hour and 10 :hhh:

Trap Beats have been in high demand since 2004/2005...

Maybe we can find a way for Boom Bap to come back.

Premo would be making bank nowadays along with Pete Rock, Buckwild, and Lord Finesse.

:blessed:

Only difference is that there's a lot of cats who mumble and will make Group Home look like legends.

Reduction in sampling has hurt BADLY.

Sampling kept older music alive as well.

Really need it to come back and help reinvigorate the art before it's too late.

It’s still crazy how many semi lyrical dudes from last decade reached a pretty consistent of underground, if not mainstream success. I could name 30 dudes. And somehow, that lane was thought of as not cool with the artists who came after them.

Everyone respects Cole and Kendrick seems to be an artist that many trap or gangster artists respect, but that hasn’t led to a ton of interesting (Cordae and those Dreamville nikkas are boring) clones or sons so far…we got like 15 Thugger sons tho

It did...

Crate Digging was also a thing too.

Rappers gotta find a way to break bread with the person they are sampling too.
