ive always heard their drum section wasnt made to stick out like JSU, Bama State and FAMU, but they were made to groove with the band and sound like a drum set :yeshrug:
War and Thunder is designed like a drum set and be groovy yet you still hear them apart from the band and being original. Same with TXSU, though they're more technical than others. Point is you can certainly do both

'Trumpet section been amazing since the 60s

did you ever hear them fiberglass tubas they had in person? when my band went against them in 06 them whitehorses were loud as fukk..shyt surprised me cause before I got to college everyone would say their tubas were slaw but i'd say they were still the loudest tubas I ever sat across from while marching in the SWAC
Trumpets were skating and missing pitches from 2008-2013
I went to the Bayou a classic in 07 in the dome and the tubas were getting cranked on by GSU. The trombones, mellophones ,trumpets were loud and carrying the band. I distinctly remember SU playing headbussas and I sat there directly across from them and thought "Wow it's really that loud." because I had been listening to SU via YouTube since 05, and wondered if they were that loud in person.

You took my whole post. SU doesn't and has never sounded nothing like a drum set, they have the laziest beats for songs, and WOAT cadences that don't even groove, and their drums just sound plain bad. Listen to the beat they put on tourist. Bass drums sound like dead paper, tenor drums have no whip, snares are dragging the groove, cymbals lazy.

Then listen to JSU put the beat on Scared of The Dark. They went in, put a nice groove down, and weren't afraid to play their drums and drive the beat. Only 4 cymbals but theyre just as loud as the 10 cymbals SU has.

End of the day They're college kids playing music so it's all in jest. I'm glad they're making music, period. :salute:

Imagine the fukkery that would have happened if Haymer was around when they crank this rivalry back up. He was in the Jukebox when they used to go against FAMU every year so I know he hate the Rattlers..hopefully the new staff can keep the same energy he had
He was around when that rivalry was going, just not as head director

These were Dr. Jackson led bands so that should give an idea of what '18 will be like
