It sounds like all don lemon did was give a opinion on what he felt the cpd was feeling. Lemon can give his opinion. Unless the cpd themselves gave him a inside look on the investigation, but I don't see why they would have done that. Lemon simply said what we all were thinking at that moment.

Yeah, this really isn't a fireable offense in the overwhelming majority of cases. The right way to handle it would've been disclosing that Smollett reached out to him for his assessment, because it really wasn't an opinion as much as if was a statement of fact. Unless it comes out that he started giving him pointers on how to be more believable, he's probably just getting a day off, and a public statement during an episode of his show disclosing the nature of their presumably former friendship. And if we're being honest, he's probably only gotta do any of that because it's happening so soon after the Cuomo situation. Otherwise, it's probably just a quick press release and two paragraph article on their website.

All these people stuck their neck out for the boy, and he’s spitting right in their faces. I don’t feel too bad for a lot of these people, though. They’ll claim they were “duped”, but so many of these people were nasty to anyone who even slightly questioned his tale.
