OK so Op you need to diversify your portfolio. Depending on age I would have about 80% in stocks and 20% bonds for starters. No individual stock should be more than 5% of your portfolio. So in theory no less than 20 stocks in your portfolio.

My picks Netflix, Apple, Google, ruger, McDonalds, vw and definitely chipotle.

Chipotle right now is under valued so it has potential to come back to 2014 levels after the food poisoning issues.

VW had dieselgate, where they lied about emissions. They are under valued as well. VW group also includes Audi and Porsche.

Tesla is over valued right now but I wouldn't short it just yet.

Yeah, you're right. Im going to buy some bonds on my next re-up of cash into my account. Looking for a cheap mutual fund but they all seem to be 3k to 10k so thats why i went with stocks/etfs for starters. You're right about chipolte and vw....esp for the long term.

How much does a single stock cost?

Not sure if anyone answered yet but the price of a stock varies. I'm no expert but it correlates with the stock market such as the Dow Jones. When a corporation reports an increase in it's sales, revenue, resources, capital etc it's stock rises in price.

And for the reverse the price of the stock goes down.

Well, I've been reading Kiplinger/Black Enterprise/Money/Fortune magazine for years now. I'm still no expert but I just NEEDED to start because I was a little scared about it all.....long story short

1) Go to vanguard.com
2) Open an account with a minimum of 1000
3) Buy and Sell.....

You can also use T Rowe Price and Ameritrade.....i think they offer no minimums and free trades but read the fine print because nothing is truly free. Vanguard trades are $7 I think.....
