No one is being a gangsta because of a movie

You need to go outside

Thats not what I said man, I said it plays a role. There are kids out there today doing stupid bs, pulling scams and stealing, and its cause they buy into the glamour of being gangsta...

I grew up watching these movies and listening to The Chronic and Ice Cube but Im not stupid enough to do something criminal when I have no reason to. I personally know kids (my cousin, my girls brother, etc) that have gotten in trouble for "gang related activity" and they thought it was cool at the time.

That shyt is not cool, and movies just like everything else affect our culture.

The violent end is part of the appeal. Like if I were on my psychoanalytic game, I'd say it's something about the death drive, this desire for self-destruction but in a spectacular sense. Really though there's an appeal in gangster movies that you're gonna reconstruct your life and if you're gonna lose it, you're not gonna go out like a punk.

It's like how Kubrick's The Killing ends with the main character just giving up, going "what's the point" as the police close in on him. He's completely resigned himself, accepts his fate, chooses prison over death. Tony Montana's like "nah fukk that."

Why do English teachers idolize and value Macbeth??:smugbiden:

Same reason there's huge risk in terms of Morality and practical fear (death, and imprisonment), caution is thrown to the wind in exchange for BLINDING AMBITION, and then the inevitable downfall.:myman:

Yeah but a lot of people idolize scum ass mafiosos and gangsters but if you ask them who Malcolm X was theyre like :skip:didnt he like die cause of... racism, or is he the lady that got told to move to the back of the bus?

Part of the reason society is :flabbynsick: is cause stupid shyt is admired and romanticized while actually knowing wtf is going on in the world is vilified or played off like its not that important.

That being said, I enjoy these movies and they are art but Im not gonna pretend Tony Montana is a hero.:mjpls:

shh....you make too much sense. I enjoy violent movies as entertainment, but some people based their lives on that bullshyt.

Because the outlaw life is alluring to people also the ability to say and do whatever one wants is not a practice that most people engage in, so they live through the lives of characters real or otherwise

Everyone at one time or another has wanted to be gangster, most are smart enough to realize what comes with that lifestyle and don't go that route. Look back throughout history outlaws have always been celebrated.
