I was very critical of G-Unit when they got hot around 2002-2005 because I didn't like 50's flow and Banks seemed boring. I only liked Young buck because of his aggressive flow. Recently, I decided to revisit G-Unit and their mixtapes to really assess their music. Here are my key observations:
1)When 50 Cent was hungry, dude was a beast. The way he was killing tracks on G-Unit Radio #1-10 made those tapes incredible..You can tell when 50 is legitimately interested in music, because later on, he starts that lazy, whatever flow. Point of this is that 50 was talented and when hungry he was one of the best on the East Coast
2) There is no doubt in my mind now that Whoo Kid is the worst DJ in the history of hip hop. It's downright embarrassing that this dude callls himself a DJ. His mixing was abysmal, his ridiculous adlibs, his transitions were annoying, and 843 fukking gun shots per song numbed my fukking ears...the worst part were his record restarts...he doesn't actually rewind the track, but he cuts off the song in mid greatness and starts it over like he's not using turntables...the G-Unit radio series would have been so much better if he was not aprt of them.
3)Banks is a monster on mixtapes. How could dudes ignore how great Banks is lyrically? On #7 and #8, Banks had freestyles that were disgusting.
4)the skits were great; the best skit was Michael Jackson interview when he was charged with molestation. Also, 50 killing J Rule over and over again was funny as fukk too
5)Yes, Game is a cornball. Yes, he is bipolar. But if you listened to #8 and still deny that Game is one of the most talented rappers ever, you are sleeping. Dude's rapping made these tapes what they were and basically shytted on the whole Unit.
6)Buck was the energy of G-Unit. His G-Unit Radio, #9, was great. That whole situation with him and 50 was really fukked up and messed up great chemistry in the unit.
Point of this thread is to celebrate the G-Unit Radio series, despite lame ass Whoo Kid, because Banks, 50, Buck and Game had a great chemistry and could have dominated if issues didn't fukk them up...I now have a new respect for G-Unit's records
