I was very critical of G-Unit when they got hot around 2002-2005 because I didn't like 50's flow and Banks seemed boring. I only liked Young buck because of his aggressive flow. Recently, I decided to revisit G-Unit and their mixtapes to really assess their music. Here are my key observations:

1)When 50 Cent was hungry, dude was a beast. The way he was killing tracks on G-Unit Radio #1-10 made those tapes incredible..You can tell when 50 is legitimately interested in music, because later on, he starts that lazy, whatever flow. Point of this is that 50 was talented and when hungry he was one of the best on the East Coast

2) There is no doubt in my mind now that Whoo Kid is the worst DJ in the history of hip hop. It's downright embarrassing that this dude callls himself a DJ. His mixing was abysmal, his ridiculous adlibs, his transitions were annoying, and 843 fukking gun shots per song numbed my fukking ears...the worst part were his record restarts...he doesn't actually rewind the track, but he cuts off the song in mid greatness and starts it over like he's not using turntables...the G-Unit radio series would have been so much better if he was not aprt of them.

3)Banks is a monster on mixtapes. How could dudes ignore how great Banks is lyrically? On #7 and #8, Banks had freestyles that were disgusting.

4)the skits were great; the best skit was Michael Jackson interview when he was charged with molestation. Also, 50 killing J Rule over and over again was funny as fukk too

5)Yes, Game is a cornball. Yes, he is bipolar. But if you listened to #8 and still deny that Game is one of the most talented rappers ever, you are sleeping. Dude's rapping made these tapes what they were and basically shytted on the whole Unit.

6)Buck was the energy of G-Unit. His G-Unit Radio, #9, was great. That whole situation with him and 50 was really fukked up and messed up great chemistry in the unit.

Point of this thread is to celebrate the G-Unit Radio series, despite lame ass Whoo Kid, because Banks, 50, Buck and Game had a great chemistry and could have dominated if issues didn't fukk them up...I now have a new respect for G-Unit's records

First G Unit radio I bought was when Game had JUST joined G Unit, volume 5 and then the next one I bought was vol 8 with mainly Game, I also had the one with the whole unit including Mobb Deep, MOP, and Mase as video game characters on the cover, the Tony Yayo one.. and even the Olivia one(dont ask me why)

Great times in rap:noah:

I actually went through this whole series again this year, pretty much every tape is just filled with piff. The overall quality starts to taper after the Mase joint, but the greatness and mixtape classics in the early series still hasn't been replicated in my opinion.

I miss those G-Unit mixtapes, even later on they had heat with #21, 22, 25, Return of the Body Bags and Elephant in the room. Only thing happening now is 50 releasing flopping singles, Banks dropping w/e mixtapes. I want to hear those 3 together.

I mainly agree with you, and Game brought heat on some of those tapes.... but IMO you're bugging if you're calling him one of the most talented rappers ever. And that's not saying he can't rap, cos he can and I fukks with some of his joints... but to me he was always an average, nothing special spitter, whos production carried him.

There was one tape... I think it was 10 where 50 Cent killed about 5 joints on the low... talking about the one where we did that Alchemist Animal joint and a couple others.

Them shyts were instantly garbage to me as soon as Prodigy started spitting them lazy verses on em and they had MOP/ Hot Rod/ Spider Loc and the rest of the C list putting garbage tracks on there.

They used to destroy those Mobb / Noyd beats, I was always disappointed they didn't get Alc to produce more original joints for them

theres some gems in the g unit radio series. that mase crucified by the hood, probably one of the most overlooked and underrated mixtapes i ever heard. listening to that shyt just let me you how son really was, and how GREAT he could have been in this rap shyt.

smoking day, takin it to the streets and sabrinas baby boy will always be my favorite though, the freeway joint is another underrated one as well. only ones i never heard was the spider loc and olivia one :manny:

WHOOOOOOOO KIDDDDDD (random gunshot)

yeah those tapes were dope. The first Yayo one was crack. Buck always had dope drops. The tape that dropped right before The Massacre, "2050" was a bonified banger. "Are you a Window Shopper" mixtape was fire too.

Spider Loc even had a banger with one of those volumes.
