Just finished watching 500 Days of Summer

Woman will always find a way to weasel their way out on being upfront on their bullshyt. Tom was too caught up on his fantasy to see the red flags while Summer knew that he wasn't the one but keep him on the side until her main guy made it official .

I mean she did say she wasn't looking for anything serious in the beginning. Tom just caught feelings.
I dont think Summer is blameless though. She should have ended that shyt sooner, but I guess she was enjoying the attention.
That bench scene was cold though

I’m convinced that even if Summer felt the same way, a relationship would not last long between them. Tom was just in love with his own version of her. I agree with you that they’re both flawed characters though. Funnily enough, their interactions indirectly lead to them meeting their actual significant others.

The dash of hope at the end makes rewatches a little bit easier. Webb could’ve gone full Cianfrance/Blue Valentine with its bleakness and I’m glad he didn’t. Autumn coming into Tom’s life after he finally put himself first is an occurrence that happens way too many times in real life. It’s bizarre as hell, but it happens.

The expectations vs. reality scene was brutal, but so damn accurate and key to the entire theme of the movie. I think most of us can relate to the part where Tom had to re-evaluate his interactions with Summer without the rose-tinted glasses and see things for what they really were. This is a tough watch, and it’s funny how most people think the movie is a strict rom-com when it really isn’t.

But to be fair, this is what usually happens to women in situationships with men

And I’m not of the viewpoint that he had unrealistic expectations of her..he left when she made it clear she didn’t want anything serious and she went after him

If a woman I’m leading on, leaves me because I don’t want to take shyt seriously, me going back looking for her means I’m ready to take her seriously, right?
