Just got a B.S. in biology. What next?

This my philosophy to a T breh. I can't just do a mundane job that I'm not passionate about. 9-5's will literally kill me. I consider myself an analytical thinker, sohh I a job where I can put my knowledge to the test. I want to job that I roll over in the middle of the night, and jot down new ideas.

word. its always good to be that crowd thats motivated by their daily duties or progressive growth.

I think the most important thing is to establish what they want. If you want a 9-5 job, that's great. I like the patients that talk about their jobs and the great benefits they get from being able to go home by 6PM everyday or that they can take 2-3 week vacations. It helps them juggle their kids and married lives - which is the real struggle when you try to be really successful or influential in any field.

i think post bac. is a great time to evaluate the things you want in life and how to explore whether those are things you want. make a flowchart or something (at least mentally). all the higher educations programs come with substantial debt now so its better to take a year to figure out that you don't want to do it then and regroup before going into it and dropping out later.

Yep, my advice to graduate students would entail traveling around the world for a bit to get a different prospective on life. I know being able to do so at an early age has differently given me more comfort on things to come and the infinite amount of opportunities out there.

As far as the graduate school debt.

What is the risk without, the proper gain.

I agree on the above mentioned claims of being a PA. It depends on the state but you have great control over patient care and you definitely can be involved in traditional physician roles. You do go though almost a similar schooling procedure as far as subject matters go and probably a better quality of life/work balance.

Yea our curriculum is based on the medical school. It's just condensed into a two year period.I just really like the fact that we have control over patient management but don't have to deal with have the bull doctors deal with.

my sister is a bio major and we tellin her to go to PA school after

i graduated with my BA last Fall... I managed to get a job paying high 30s starting off.. I also got a side hustle and im planning to go back to school next yr..

living at home is a God's send though

Tell her to go for it. What is she waiting for the two top decisions I've ever made in my life was joining the air force and then going to PA school. Tell not to wait cuz this shyt is about to get saturated.

you should of ask yourself that question since sophomore or junior year and look into possible career opportunities since then. people are always coming down on college education but the real problem is with people like the OP. how can you spend all this time at college studying something and not know what you can do with? you need to ask yourself why you choose biology as a major and what you want to do with it. if you're not sure then go out in the world and see what you might like or fit in somewhere. but if you want to do something more specific consider grad school.

anyway a quick google search yielded these, always check out the various societies of whatever field of study you're interested in they usually have some good advice and links to career opportunities.

Seriously, what are people thinking when they are declaring majors, does if it ever cross their mind to do cross research the job outlook on the major. Are they looking for internships or putting themselves in a position to network with people in that field.
